You will never know it's Vegan.. the taste is exceptional!
I ordered the burger with Gouda, and a side salad..
I'm no longer able to eat red meat for health reasons, but I was craving a juicy, meaty burger. Let me tell you, this hit the spot!!
The "meat" was cooked perfectly, and all the fixings were on point.
I also ordered a side of onion rings. The burger was definitely the star of the show.

You can expect a real mellow vibe with great service. Their vegan menu has a variety of light and tasty items to choose from and don’t forget dessert. All this complemented with your choice of an adult beverage or tea. We loved it and I’m sure you will too.

This is my absolute favorite restaurant! The oyster mushroom tacos and artichoke hearts are a MUST HAVE. The toppings on the tacos (I get avocado added) are so fresh and it’s such a flavorful satisfying meal. The artichoke hearts and the house marinara are insanely good. They somehow taste like mozzarella sticks, but better. I still haven’t had everything on the menu yet, since I recently moved, but what I have had so far, is the BEST! I also love some of the non-toxic, eco-friendly containers that I get when I order take - out. ♥️♥️♥️

The restaurant still looks nice, but the acustics are still bad in there. We're lucky that there was no one else was dinning there last night.

That being said, their service was quick and well heard listening to the foods we ordered.

This time, we had an order of one Back at the ranch, an order of Afredo noodles with (vegan) chicken added on, and a order Chimichurri Ravioli. Although they served it under 20 minutes, and the food was ok, the portion sises for the food was off. The salad [ Back at the ranch ] had enough food to feed someone, but the Afredo noodles & Chimichurri Ravioli proportions we're too small and unfilling. That being said, the desert proportion for the 24 karrot Cake made up for it. It was the height of a wedding cake slice, but thick as one you'd order at a cafe.

Overall, we'd like a bigger portion size.

A fully Vegetarian and Vegan restaurant, and a nice one at that although it is a bit loud times due to poor acoustics.

After being seated, they took our order about 5 minutes later and gave us a quart of water in a bottle for the table.

They served our food about 10 to 15 minutes later, and it was looking very appealing. I had ordered the Pizza Burger, and although it looked deceiving as a normal burger, the marinara sauce and pepperoni made it delicious. My friend ordered the Alchemy Bowl, and although not a large amount, it was just filling enough to leave room for desert.

The desert that was served was a Peach Cobbler, and although a bit pricey, it was definitely worth it.

Nothing too special, a bit overpriced. Dessert was terrible. From the ambience, service and food… it’s just average. The loaded fries saved the meal, loved the skinny fries with yummy cheese and amazing smell of “bacon”… but the grilled burger smelled way too much like smoke, the loaded nachos were okay. Service wasn’t bad at all, but it wasn’t great neither. It’s just meh. We ordered the Sunday brownie and eww, it was hard, crumbling like bread and tasteless. The little tiny scoop of ice cream didn’t help much.

Delicious hip plant based restaurant serving tasty vegan options of comfort food. Been here multiple times and it’s been reliable. Just a short walk to the Starlight cinemas on Greenleaf in Whittier. What I really enjoyed were the Jackfruit nachos, fried avocado tacos, fried oyster mushroom tacos, salad bowl. I wasn’t overly thrilled with the alfredo pasta since it was hyped up as a very popular dish but it was just okay. Great spot to stop by for a pre or post movie night!

Delicious, harm-free food! I love this place so much.

We started with Pachamama Tea and hard kombucha. From there we had carrot soup and menudo. This is where the photos stopped because we dug right in.

I was feeling like some real comfort food and had a fried “chicken’” sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. It hit the spot but the real star of the show was the gluten free chimichurri ravioli with fried oyster mushrooms. Wow, I have never had anything like it.

My husband and i had dinner at Modern Sherman and we loved it, we ordered the menudo, artichoke tacos and the shrimp tacos. Everything was delicious, we will definitely comeback again to try more dishes and deserts , we highly recommend it.

This is an easy-going, peaceful place. Good music, but its not too loud where you cant talk. We were able to hold a conversation with no problem. I think this place is a hidden gem. The carrot carrot is off the chain. Try the jackfruit tacos for an appetizer.

I saw all these great reviews and thought Id give this place a shot. Honestly i was really disappointed. Everything is extremely overpriced for the portion sizes. The flavors werent too great either. Definitely not worth the price. The service was really slow too even thought the place was pretty empty. Overall, the only thing I enjoyed about the place was the ambience.

A great little gem in Uptown Whittier!!!! I m not vegetarian but the artichoke tacos, mushroom tacos, corn dog, and No Cluck given sandwich was delicious and the chocolate chip ice cream for dessert is also a must. We will definitely come back to eat such good food. We highly recommend this restaurant. Vegetarian options: Delicious and creative. Parking: Plenty of parking. Wheelchair accessibility: Easy to get in and out of restaurant.

Not a vegan but still find myself enjoying modern shaman about once a month! If you didn t know it was a plant based restaurant you truly wouldn t be able to tell. Everything is so flavorful and filling. I recommend the loaded cheese fries, alfredo noodles, and corn dog w cheese sauce. If you like margaritas you must try the spicy margarita!! Too good!!!!

I am not a vegan. Modern Shaman can definitely change my choice of eating habits. I ordered the nachos, excellent, will certainly order again and again. My daughter ordered the Alchemy Salad, another excellent choice. We had the seasoned fried chickpeas as an appetizer. Warm and crunchy, deelish! Since I live very close this is one dish I would undoubtedly pick up for a snack. In my opinion I like better than popcorn. Our server was very cordial and attentive. The wait time between ordering and receiving our meal was not long. It was a Sunday evening and not busy. A must try eatery....at least once.

I order a spirit animal with vegan bacon, mayonaise, red onions and tomato. So good and truffle fries The reason for the 4 stars is there was some kind of structure issue? The sandwich fell aparr so it was not very pleasant to eat. Looking forward to trying the rest of there menu.

The flavors were good, yes. Ill give it to them buuuuut there was a live bug on the tacos in the picture. I had them redone but still got charged full price. Service could be better. And its kinda overpriced.

As an omnivore, Ive had good vegan food before. This food is great - significantly better than any other Ive had. A chefs level of attention is paid to the ingredients and the recipes. The carrot cake alone is worth the drive down to Whittier...

What can I say about this place? Its so delicious and never disappoints every time my husband and I come here. The waitresses and the waiters are always nice. The food here is always so yummy. Theres so much stuff I still want to try but its just I like the usual stuff that I order and the same thing with my husband. I love to Smack n Cheeze with the chicken oh my God thats so good and my husband loves the Smoked n Loaded burger and he loves the salad that comes with the burgers. They have some good organic lemonade. Me and my husband are never disappointed its always good. The service is always good and the last time I was here was the 9th of this month (August) that was my birthday and everything was delicious. You wont be disappointed and just if theres bad reviews, those type of people probably want their food like in 2 minutes you know just ignore the bad reviews because this place is not bad whatsoever. Also I have anxiety so this place does not give me anxiety whatsoever. Even when it is crowded its just a very calm place. My husband suggested taking me here for my birthday because I didnt know where else to eat. He knew that I wasnt going to be disappointed, he knew that the food is great, he knows that the service is great and he knew I wouldnt get anxious. So this is why this place is also great because it doesnt make me anxious. So just think about that. Food for thought.

Food is good, very light and tasty. Kind of pricey, but worth it. Although, management took out some great dishes. The meatball sub, was so good, and the smoked nloaded burger are no longer on the menu. Their are other dishes, the desert dishes for example, that are I cant recall that are no longer their. Which is why I deducted one star.

I am a hard hardcore carnivore as they come. I decided to come here in support of my cousin who is Vegan. I was SO surprised & very impressed with my dining experience! The jackfruit nachos were amazing! I also ordered a pomegranate mimosa & rounded things off with the chocolate brownie. I will absolutely be back again & this experience taught me not to be so fearful of Vegan options that are out there.

Hands down the best vegan restaurant Ive ever been to! I will start off by saying I am not vegan. We went to uptown Whittier to try the brewery but due to a power outage earlier it was still closed. After walking around uptown Whittier when decided to try this place because we saw they had Margaritas. It was a little disappointing the Mango Margarita didn t taste too much like mango. That is fine. We decided to try the Oyster tacos and I don t regret doing so . They were amazing! We ordered a second round of the tacos. There was a little mixup of the pricing when the bill came. The manager listened to our concerns. We agreed to disagree and continued with our meal. The manager came back and apologized which was appropriated.

Fantastic vegan food! We shared the alchemy bowl which was an awesome salad and then tried the cashew alfredo with fried oyster mushrooms... Delicious! Well be back to try the rest of the menu for sure.

Food was really good. And it was my first time trying it. The girl on the phone was really helpful and nice when i seen her too. But the girl who charged us which was this skinny more on the brownish tone charged us with her little attitude. Girl dont be in the field with that attitude. All becasue of a cheese cake slice. So ungrateful. We still said thank u. She like yeah uh huh. Like thats not how u treat a customer. We make u. We had ordered half an hour ago and took her over 10 minutes to get our cheese cake and to process our payment. May that energy she gave us go back to her 7 times. Eye for an eye.

Horrible horrible experience. I ordered food at 7:04pm and they said an estimate time of the food was a 25 minutes wait time since the kitchen was behind. Mind you that there was only 2 tables that were sat down and had their food already. So I waited and waited.... And waited. At 7:40 I asked if the food was ready and the lady taking the order literally said and I quote: I dont know what to tell you. I said why was my order of 2 nachos and a corn dog takes too long. After another 10 minutes I told her to cancel the order and she then replies that my order was next in line i told her I waited long enough and I wanted a refund. She then goes back to the manager and magically comes back with my food in an instant. I told her she can keep the food I only want a refund. At this point I dont want to make a bigger deal than it has too so I just take my refund and a bad experience. Ill leave a proof of what I ordered.

My girlfriend and I ordered the Alchemy Bowl as we saw the hype online for it, but honestly there was nothing worth the money for it. Could have easily chopped up some greens and roasted better garbanzo beans at home that werent as saltier as the fresh ocean water cause wow never thought beans could be this salty until I had this. Its crazy how I thought I could have impressed my girlfriend with this place knowing how Vegan crazy she is. Would definitely not have this with beer on the side.

This place blew my mind. We had the nachos, truffle fries, ceviche, and mushroom oyster. It was all delicious. Our waitress was a badass mother daughter duo and they had the best customer service and super kind! We were celebrating an engagement and the brought us dessert on the house! I ve been to this place multiple times and usually the quality is on point! Unfortunately, not only was my order on 5/22/20 an hour late, items were missing, and the quality was not there as well. I get that things happen in the kitchen, I could tell there was that day. I honestly didn t mind waiting, but the fact we spent over $50 AND our items we paid for were missing was so disappointing. Anyway, probably won t be ordering for awhile.

I dont know what menudo usually tastes like, but their vegan version is the stuff of dreams. I inhaled a full bowl and then immediately wondered if it would be impolite to order another. Service here is fast and friendly without being rushed. This was my second visit to Whittier and Modern Shaman - Im already looking forward to coming back next time Im in town.

Quaint little cafe, friendly staff, and great wellness teas they bring you in a personal tea pot. Would recommend Mimi Shanti.

Oh, yes!!!! The two persons of color working were so sweet, kind, hospitable to our little colored girl outing. The food was VERY good and we enjoyed the ambiance. We shared the burger, posole, Mac and cheese, truffle fries and hummus plate. All was very good and Im certainly no vegan. Thank you for sharing!!!

Food was just okay. Second time here but first time the food was much better. This time very blase. Service was slow and not that great. The worst thing is that the place seems very dirty. Glasses were gross. Wont be coming back.

If youre vegan or not you have to try the vegan menudo. Ive got to say its the best Ive tried. Ive tried other items here but now I come in strictly for the menudo. I love it.

The Vegan Menudo was pretty good, but the Vegan Corn Dog will blow ANY corn dog out of the water. Excellent staff and great tea selection

Great vegan restaurant in downtown Whittier. Lots of options. The food is full of flavor. The staff is kind and offers samples of the menu items. Nice cozy atmosphere.

First time there. I liked their menu selction. I like what we ordred. For the food I will go back again. I ordred the pink hummus and the I give no clucks chikun sandwich, the person I went with ordered the gaspacho. The food was amazing, next time I want to try the dessert. The only reason why I didnt give it 5 stars was the service. It took them a while to get our orders. The person who sat us knew we havent been helped and asked if we have been helped. Even to get sat took them a minute. I do however recognize that places like such do run slower given that they are small business. The prices were reasonable. It was not as expensive as other vegan places.

Very flavorful and fresh. Great service and the food comes out quickly. The jackfruit nachos are simple but so tasty. All of the veggies they use are so fresh and good. Nice little touches with garnish- daisies, rosemary sprig, watermelon radish slice etc. chicken sandwiches are huge and good.

Here for the first time and everything was excellent. They have great options and fantastic staff members who are sweet and down to earth. The atmosphere is relaxing and peaceful, a pleasant change from all the hustle and bustle of other restaurants. The food is beyond words. The Jackfruit Nachos are a MUST, their Pachamama was fantastic, very filling and their Poboy has great flavor. Definetly recommend it for those who are wanting to explore different vegetarian options or just wanting something different and delicious.

Came here today for lunch with my friend. Doesnt matter if youre a meat eater and not into vegan options. I myself am a vegetarian. This place is fantastic!!!! We shared the nachos and tacos and oh man.....so good. Im excited to come back!!!
