We are an innovative brewery and pizza kitchen located on the southside of Chicago in the Beverly-Morgan Park neighborhood.
We arrived to this brewery and it was busy, my wife Anabel & I sat at the bar and ordered 2 light lagers.
The wait staff a little younger wasn’t as attentive, I went to freshen up aka wash my hands…upon my return I tasted my beer then my wife’s. I thought we got the same beer, I said “excuse me” , a woman named Katie warmly greeted up and after a brief welcome discussion…she introduced us to a small sample size flight. I was impressed with her warm attentive attention. We were new here and will be back to try food.
Katie is the reason I am writing this review, great above and beyond service. Will return soon.

Came in on a Friday night with 3 people and sat up on the rooftop deck. It was not very busy. Less than half the tables were occupied. 2 servers working. It took about 5 min for a waitress to come to our table and then 20 min for our beer to come. Our food then came out very quickly but with only one set of silverware.
In my opinion the food is very heavy-handed. The veggie pizza "Napoleon " style had big pieces of red pepper and waaay to much base level shredded mozzarella. Edible but not good. And certainly not worth $18.50. The Greek salad was $14.00 and also very heavy handed. Very large pieces of lettuce. Again not worth the price. With slightly more attention to detail with the same ingredients, it could be fine.
We then ordered one more cocktail which the server forgot. We needed to flag our server down to ask for the check and boxes. They brought the check but no boxes. They then shared that 20% gratuity was included, which is not cool. I typically tip above %20 but weigh the service and experience. This service was not worth %20. I would have like to know that up front. I asked for the receipt and boxes again. They brought the boxes but never the receipt. Things took way too long and the food was not on par with the cost.
Will not dine here again. With some small management focus, this place could be great. The atmosphere was very pleasing. Beer was ok. Service needs work. Drop the automatic %20 and servers will make more and do better.

This was our first time here since new owners took over. I was a bit skeptical after reading recent reviews, but we had a great experience. There were cute Christmas decorations that made it feel festive. It was not very busy so maybe that helped, but our service was quick and friendly. We were bummed they are no longer making Dark Pool, so we tried the closest option they had. It was good, but not as good. We had the big pretzel for an app and the sweet and spicy pizza for dinner. The pretzel was excellent. The pizza was a bit different than it used to be, but it was still good. We will definitely come back, always hoping for the return of Dark Pool.

One waitress on a Saturday night. Got menus and took drink orders. Drinks came about 5 minutes later. She took our menus and said she'd be back. Never did. Had to ask another staff member to tell her we wanted to order food. This was at least 15 minutes later. Then she brings menus again. No! Let us order. Food came out pretty quickly. Burgers were good. Limited menu, only 2 sandwich choices. Slashed the menu by 50% from what it used to be. Raised all the prices. Waitress tells us what we owe. No bill. I give her $100 cash. She goes to bar and back, says did you want your change? I said what is the change? She said $19. Pretty presumptuous that I was giving it all to her. I probably would have left her even more, but the situation was just weird.

Held a work event at new and improved Open Outcry and everyone had a great time! I think everything, the space (rooftop) drinks and food were perfect! The staff was on top of it, extremely efficient and attentive to guests. Our bartender/host Jully “rocked it”! Most of my guests advised that they would definitely return. Thank you Katie and Jim for making a much needed, awesome evening, with co-workers, possible. Please extend my gratitude to the rest of the staff. See you guys soon!

We were at the Beverly farmer’s market and decided to google nearby restaurants. Open Outcry came up and boy are we glad. The atmosphere, food, craft beer, and rooftop beer garden are absolutely amazing. The cheese curds have a garlicky breading which elevates it from the norm and were my favorite curds to date. We chose the wood fired pizza and the hoyne sandwich as our entrees and both were delicious and filling. The service was spot on and the owner John was walking around to make sure everyone was good, that is when he wasn’t sweeping and cleaning and bussing the dishes. That’s the sign of an invested owner in my opinion. We are definitely planning on becoming frequent patrons!

Enjoyable atmosphere, love that you can see the inner workings of the on-site brewery facilities behind the bar area... adds an industrial but intimate feel to the space.
Taking a couple flights of steps to the outdoor patio is another delight and value add to the place. The aesthetic gives rooftop garden and helps to diminish some of the cityscape.
The food is good, service is pleasant and knowledgeable even though I did not get the opportunity to try any of the local brew on the menu on this visit (something to look forward to come back and experience!).

I went to Open Outcry with friends over the summer and we all loved the Margherita Pizza. Why, I don't know but they changed the recipe and menu. That Margherita Pizza was the worst I've ever had. Yesterday, we ordered 4 pizzas for 4 people and 2 were Margherita Pizzas. They were salty, tomato paste pizzas. Absolutely, horrible! I WASTED $75 ON CRAP FOR MY GUESTS EXPECTING THE GOOD PIZZA FROM THE SUMMER!

The menu was limited and did not have much to offer. I ordered the black and blue burger cooked medium. The burger was overcooked and lacked flavor. My side of sweet potato fries looked as if they were from the bottom of the bag.

My husband, daughter and I have been enjoying Open Outcry for years. It was my daughter’s favorite restaurant. Unfortunately the last time will be our last due to the service and food. Only one waitress that was terrible and has been terrible every time we go there. Doesn’t write the orders down, so she never put our soup in, takes forever to come take a drink order and then spills the drink on the table and our food. One of the best things about open outcry were the fries, but now they are hardly edible. So disappointed because we were regulars, but not anymore.

Used to have the best pizzas but after new owners they are now so sad. Smaller, poor ingredients (Lunchables style pepperoni and clearly canned veg/mushrooms). We would die for them to make them how they used to! Even the menus that used to have so much community pride and style have been changed and made completely blase.
Beer is still great. Really liked the new artichoke appetizer but overall, service is slow, the pizzas are so disappointing, and prices increased quite a bit ($2-3+) - not to mention the added surcharge (EDIT: it was a mandatory gratuity as the owner stated, my mistake) which we weren't informed about before getting our check!
It's a shame, used to be a favorite spot. Would pay the higher prices and gratuity if things tasted the way they used to but it's not the same!

The arugula prosciutto pizza was always my fave but is not as good as it used to be. Way too much crust left without any topping, more crust than ingredients and very little prosciutto, and flavorless. Whire sauce needed garlic. The regular cheese pizza had way too much gooooey cheese that did not have much flavor. The kids peeled off the cheese because it was too thick to eat. I think you need a new chef. 😐 i was very disappointed.

If you like to eat burnt "Italian beef" pizza that has been sitting under a heat lamp for way too long, and dry unimaginative burgers, this dump is the place for you!

I used to absolutely love this place. However clearly there is some new management and in this case new is not better.
They have done away with their localized, neighborhood feel and introduced corporate restaurant bs. I am all for consolidation of a menu for better prep, but this change just sucked the soul out of it.
They have increased prices, reduced portion size (of pizza), use cheaper ingredients and have a 20% "gratuity" included.
If it's mandatory to pay, put it on the ****ing menu. Absolutely ridiculous.
The now called "sweet and spicy" formerly named after a local street used to be amazing and their best. Now it just tastes like a pool of cheap, milky cheese. It is no longer spicy, the pepperoni is bad and the honey is barely detectable.
To be fair it looks like not all of their items have changed and I am sure there is still good stuff on their menu and their new cocktails are straight up good. However, give it time and I bet these changes will infect everything if they don't stop this trend now.
I used to absolutely adore this place, but it looks like the new direction is that of cheap food, at least for the pizza. Hopefully I am wrong.
Giving 3 stars because I will give it one more chance but if their burger went down the same path, I will update to 2 at most.

Been one of my favorite spots for a long time. Finally made it up there recently and was very disappointed. Beers are still great but the pizza has completely changed, nowhere near as good as it used to be. Service also has never been this lackluster before, I had to flag down a server to order a drink after waiting more than 15mins sitting there to dine in. Apparently new owners have taken over, can definitely tell with changes to the menu and food quality. Shame.

What a great place to grab a drink or a bite to eat! The staff and service were excellent, the rooftop is beautiful and the tap room is spacious with plenty of seating. But above all of that I had one of the best burgers I’ve had in a long time. And that fried artichoke appetizer is dreamy. Will be back very soon!

This place used to be better. Hadn’t been in awhile, so my husband and I stopped in over the weekend. It was pretty empty for a Saturday afternoon. We had one of their pizzas. Not as good as we both remembered. Another difference? All the games they had for you to choose from to bring back to your table were gone. That was a shame to see. The biggest change, though? The 20% gratuity they add to EVERY bill. There were two of us and we sat at the bar. Didn’t matter. Automatic 20%. Apparently the brewery is no longer owned by the original guy. You can tell. The beer was still decent, but not as good as other Chicagoland breweries. We won’t be going back.

I don’t usually like to leave bad reviews because that helps no one! But after coming here tonight I changed my mind! Service was unbelievably slow waited 20 minutes for a warm beer that was supposed to be taken off the bill and wasn’t! To order food took another 20 maybe more! I understand it’s not the servers fault as they were busy but seeing other waitress hanging out talking and moving only when the boss showed up on the floor was a little annoying ! Asked for forks was given 1 for 2 people and had to wait for ever to get them almost got it myself! I’m a very patient person but this was crazy

My cousin's birthday celebration led us to this gem, and we were thrilled with every aspect of our visit.
From the moment we stepped in, the ambiance was inviting yet vibrant, with a charming blend of industrial chic and cozy warmth. The staff greeted us warmly and made us feel right at home, ensuring our glasses were never empty and our questions about their extensive beer selection were always answered.
Speaking of the beer, it was exceptional. Each brew we tried showcased the brewers' dedication to quality and innovation.
What truly sets Open Out Cry apart, though, is its atmosphere of camaraderie. As the evening progressed, we found ourselves chatting with other patrons, sharing stories and laughs over our shared love of good beer and good company. The space is conducive to both intimate gatherings and lively celebrations, making it an ideal spot for any occasion.
Overall, Open Out Cry Brewing Company exceeded our expectations in every way. Whether you're a seasoned beer enthusiast or just looking for a place to celebrate with loved ones, this brewery delivers an unforgettable experience. We left with full bellies, happy hearts, and a promise to return soon. Cheers to family, cheers to good times, and cheers to Open Out Cry Brewing Company for making it all possible.
Thank you Jim and Katie Beck!

Too often great customer service goes unrecognized because of it simply is a deliverable expectation for an establishment but it is clearly many times not genuine. After our first of many more future visits my wife and I couldn't have been more impressed with the ambiance, food, beer, prices and yes, outstanding service that we received from all the employees especially Dan. He was approachable, knowledgeable, sincere, and just an overall pleasure to interact with. For years we frequently visit wineries and breweries but this just felt different, it felt like sitting on your back porch enjoying a beer with an old friend. If you are looking for a new place to have a cold beer and be treated like family, I can't recommend enough trying Open Outcry brewery company.

Bottom of cup said 8 OZ. If you’re going to list a 16 OZ and 10 OZ pour, then give me that size. How hard is that? Buyer beware.

We had a great early dinner on a Monday. It was before the dinner rush. We had kids with us, and they were accommodated with kids' drinks and fun kids menu mats as well.
Our server was very attentive but never annoyingly so. We grabbed pretzels as an appetizer, and they came with beer cheese and honey mustard and were seasoned with everything bagel seasoning. They were really good.
We ordered sliders for the kids (9 and 7 yrs old) and pizza for the adults. We chose the cheese and the lemon arugula one. Everything was great! We also had the flourless chocolate cake as we were celebrating a birthday. It was delightful.
They have a fun table with swings to sit on, but it was occupied when we arrived. Their bathrooms are clean and well kept, as is the rest of the brewery. It was a nice day, so the large garage door was open for fresh air. We've been here many times, and we will keep coming back!

I’ve been a fan of Open Outcry since it opened. Love the food and craft beers! Products are excellent - but sadly the service is not there. It may not be the servers fault - as we saw her running from end to end of the restaurant - but we had a terrible time getting drinks, our table serviced and follow up to our meal. We cleared our own table, went to the bar to order our drinks because there just was not enough help. What we thought would be a relaxing meal became tense because we were on our own. A $95 bill doesn’t seem like a lot, but a meal, ONE drink and a dirty table (because of the lack of help) did not make it an enjoyable time. C’mon OC - you can do better!

Only had time for one beer, but the Delirio hazy IPA was one of the best I’ve had in a long time. Bright citrusy and just drinkable. The owner John and I got to chat for about 10 minutes. He is a great guy and seems very committed to the neighborhood and knowledgeable about beer. I perused the menu and they have a great cocktail program to complement the beers. I’m coming back soon to try the pizza and the rest of that beer list.

Awesome experience, was a perfect start of a Chicago visit to attend a concert. This place is a microbrewery, with a full bar, dining room and kitchen featuring a wood-fired pizza oven. You can see their brewing operation in the dining area as well as through a window behind the bar. The dining room is full of character, long tables with yellow metal chairs and some tables set up with swings for chairs (check out the photos). There is a dining area upstairs on the roof as well; but we didn't go there. Wife and I ordered salad and a wood-fired 12-inch pizza for two. Tried their own brews, I got the Hefeweisen called 'Bona Fide', wife got their double hazy IPA called 'Citrium'. The salads came and it was huge, came in a shoebox sized box. The croutons were homemade and well seasoned for the classic house salad. We weren't done with the salad by the time the pizza arrived. The pizza ordered was 'The Spaulding' having a tomato sauce base, pepperoni and jalapeños covered with their 50/50 cheese (provolone and mozzarella); fired in the wood oven then drizzled with a honey sauce. Oh SO good, perfectly matched my Hefe! This was the best pre-load for a rock concert, ever!

🛑 MUST stop brewery on Western 🛑
Great location, food, and beer! Love the ambiance of the rooftop, perfect place to unwind especially with it getting a bit cooler at night. My little cousin LOVED the swing chairs downstairs.
I’m amazed at how tasty the food is— there is not one thing on the menu I wouldn’t eat! I loved the option to order a beer flight so I could pick out my favorite before ordering the full size. 10/10!

Food great, service was ok. Walked in took 5 minutes before anyone said anything. I actually had to ask a random waitress about a kids menu. My waitress said she was new once I mentioned she had forgot my daughters drink and told her about my experience , she wasnt mean actually sweet but the tenativeness, and service definitely could have been much better. It was 4 tables being occupied very slow and it was around 1pm. Other waitress helped more than she did. I still tipped and will return to give it another go.

The food was great. I definitely recommend The Hatch appetizer. It was so delicious, I’m sure I’m going back just for that. The pizza was so fresh and tasty. The crust just right and I could eat it alone honestly. Jenny offered us amazing service and was very attentive and had great recommendations of the menu. The scenery and atmosphere is very nice for summer, especially the rooftop. It’s a lowkey gem that I highly recommend.

Open Outcry is a gem. From the beer to the cocktails to the food to the service, it is a true gift on the south side. The thoughtfulness of the space, the craftsmanship of the beers...honestly, I could go on. Recently we were there after an event at the nearby Arts Center and it was like being at someone's home but with really amazing beer and cheese curds. It might also be one of the most diverse and inclusive places on the south side, too - everyone is welcome, and no shenanigans are allowed. Don't hesitate to make Open Outcry a stop!

Not a beer drinker? There is something for everyone - the cocktails here are top notch! A Blueberry Bourbon Trade and a Talman pizza is a winning combination. Run don’t walk. 🥃🍕

Excellent beer and a very fun environment with lots of young kids. The pizza is a bit heavy-handed for my taste.

Great little place. The inside is fun with bright yellow everywhere and even swings for some of the seats. The rooftop seating would be fantastic on a nice sunny day.
Pizza was delicious and the beer was satisfying. Would definitely recommend stopping here.

Have visited open outcry many times, and each time I come back it keeps getting better! Great atmosphere, followed by a kind and hardworking staff that serves up some great food! Oh, and not to mention the beer! Nothing beats a tasty speculator. 10/10 would recommend to anyone.

slowest service of my life. waitress was rude and we spoke to her twice, once to order, once to ask her to bring the check after waiting for 45 minutes. food was okay, overpriced for the amount you got. everything was insanely slow.

Amazinggg Strawberry Garden Salad and Impossible Burger. On the other hand, very distasteful service and unwelcoming energy.
Guess our server was just having a bad day…
Edit: We found a hair. Cherry on top..
Edit: We still tipped 15% ….

It's more of a child friendly atmosphere. But the burgers were delicious and the fries, which is usually not the case. However our server was Mona was great and great personality, she knew her beers and it was just an overall good time.

Great restaurant & bar, Every day closer to becoming a neighborhood institution. Locally owned. Families & couples & groups meet here frequently. Welcoming to guests from near and far. Food is excellent and will have you bragging about your positive experience. Kitchen and bar menus are unique, yet not overwhelming. A regular place to patronize. I recommend that you become a member of the personalized mug club. Cheers
