My mom lives near here & put me on to this place. I admit I was skeptical at 1st but decided to go ahead & give them a try & I am So Glad I Did! Everything we ordered was Delicious, perfectly seasoned & they give Nice size portions. The Sauce is on Point as well so don’t skip the sauce !! Safe to say this is MY family’s new favorite Jerk/BBQ JOINT !! What we’ve ordered:

This review is long overdue, this place is delicious. We got jerk chicken, rib tips, mac n cheese, rice and beans. Jerk chicken was so good, had such good flavor and the chicken was yummy and not dry. The rib tips were tender and the bbq was fire. Mac n cheese was flavorful and the perf combo of runny/creamy. The rice and beans are what they are, but were still very flavorful. The pictures speak for themselves. Def a must try and once you try it you’ll want to keep going back.

Love the ribs tender fall off the bone the portion is a nice size. I got a rib tip dinner with fries. The sauce is lowkey a hit. Will definitely recommend. (Ate 4 rib tips b4 pic was taken 🤤)

The food is delicious it takes time but I enjoy that if you want fresh food. I enjoy the rice bowls, pasta bowls, and the turkey tips. It’s worth it!! I would have some to post for presentation but I ate it.

Lousy service.Waited 40 minutes for them to tell me that they had none of the sides that I'd ordered.Then refused to serve me after I changed the order so I could get SOME THING to eat.I was told that I wasn't being served because of a bad review.

Every business deserves a 2nd chance to make a better impression.The 2nd visit was an hour before closing and told they were out of sides.They had fries.No problem

This was my 3rd visit and after waiting 40minutes and I saw other customers who came in after me being served, one with a side that I had ordered.

After everyone else had left,the older female proprietor came out,asked my name and told me that my sides were still in the oven.I asked which sides were those.She said whatever sides you ordered ain't ready.My order was to come with 2sides.I asked which sides they had when I placed my order at 4:12pm.He said they had 4 and named them.

I then changed my order to NO sides.

THEN I was told by this lady, I recognize you as giving us a bad review.I'm giving you your money back.I got it and left.

I'd highly suggest that you take the effort to provide fewer flies and better customer service in your establishment.

My lesson was God telling me that I didn't need that pork, ever.

This restaurant deserves 5 STARS and PERFECT RECOGNITION because the chicken tastes BETTER than any chicken I have ever tasted. I ordered Buffalo wings, Barbeque wings, and fried chicken wings for my Mama's celebration of life. There were not any wings left once the party was over. The customer service was great by the owner, and the cook was exceptional as well. When they say they will have your food ready for you, then they do JUST THAT. Although it's a small Black-Owned business, the owner operates in EXCELLENCE. Because of this, I will now ONLY PATRONAGE with 87th Street Jerk to meet my party needs moving forward. I am so grateful for the food and the service. GOD Bless you both Ms. Anita and Mr. Michael!

The service at the restaraunt is atrocious. Twice within the last two weeks I've gone to this restaurant after calling to verify their hours, only to find the door locked. The first time I pushed and knocked on the door for 5 minutes, before calling to see if anyone was inside;
And after I told them the door was locked and customers were waiting outside in the" freezing cold", an older gentleman came to unlock the door, then lied and said" oh you didn't push hard enough, it wasn't locked".
At least this time, today 01-26-24 at 1:50pm, the woman admitted the door was in fact locked, .however, she didn't know why....
Why, is this door always locked during the day, people are inconvenienced and it's just asinine if you are trying to run a respectable business, to not be open. Or at least install a buzzer, if it's about safety.
A waste of time...

Food is good but they DO NOT LISTEN. My food is never how I requested it to be. I get my food the same every time I go. Turkey tips with jerk sauce on everything and rib tips with bbq sauce and jerk sauce on side. None of the food had sauce on it only jerk sauce on side. It’s not what I asked for! I had 2 ppl talking to me and I just KNEW my food wasn’t going to be made correctly. Idk why I keep giving them chances.

Came in for the first time. I ordered the jerk chicken pasta. I waited 15 minutes for my food. When I got it, it was barely warm, and the pasta was mussy. I was told it was supposed to be made fresh, but it was not. A waste of 20.00. I won't be back anytime soon.

They did not disappoint, the food was plentiful and delicious.
I live close, so I will be making regular trips to try other meals from here.

This place is literally a Hidden Gem I smelled the smoke from blocks away but as I got closer I could see the smoke barreling from the building so I knew I was in the right place you could tell by the way it smells this is not your ordinary jerk restaurant it Reminds you of a Smokehouse lol they literally sell everything from rib tips to turkey tips hot links Fried Chicken jerk chicken and soul food!! this place puts I-57, Alice's, lem's, Uncle John's, Pit Stop, Leon's, and anybody else on the Southside area to Shame!!!! The customer service is phenomenal! I always get a laugh when i go! You can tell they are a family which speaks alot aout the food Nina the owner and Her brother The GM pitmaster Hutch are shutting the Southside Down! To be so busy The place is so clean!!!! I've had almost everything on the menu and they never miss!!! The BBQ tatse better than ya granddaddy and the soul food sides taste better than ya grandma's lol I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYBODY!

*They cook all of they're food fresh from the pit so if they're busy prepare to wait for about 30 minutes Tops which isn't quite long compared to the hour and half wait like the other BBQ Joints

The food is amazing but what made this place spectacular is the laugh while I waited!!! The owner is extremely personable and the conversation was exactly what I needed after a long work day!!!! I got the jerk bowl, wings and rib tips and they did nor disappoint!!

I went to the restaurant a little before closing; my expectations were exceeded! I ordered the rib tip and hot link combo. The rib tips were seasoned well, were tender and the sauce? The sauce had the perfect combination of sweet, tangy, with a bit of a kick!

The hot links were juicy and coats in the right amount of sauce! The links is a bit spicy but that’s why it’s called a hot link! Duh…lol

Customer service was both fantastic and friendly. I felt like I was at a cookout getting a plate from my friend who always sing to the ribs!! Lol

Wow amazing! I was just driving by and decided to give this restaurant a chance and man am I glad I did. This place was so welcoming and the Pit Master had such a positive attitude. You can tell he loves what he does and that is always a good sign. Nothing in this place is a miss. Everything is a hit!!! Not only did I leave feelings good but once I ate I felt even better. I will absolutely be back!!!

The "less than 10min wait" became 20min and all he did was chop tips& scoop 2sides.The tips were nice and meaty and the sauce was really good.The beans and rice were dry; and the yams tasted like plantain not yams.I might go back for the tips and try the wings and skip the sides.

Not a bad place to visit . Kinda pricey, $30. For a half dark chicken Only and a large jerk order of Rib tips . . . Not a bad price ' But the portions were the issue . The chicken only was about four pieces of dried chicken ' No bread. The large Tips was full of French fries and tasted okay but Didn't have a Jerked taste At All . Okay drop by choice.

Everytime I go there it’s a good choice. My favorite is the dressing and yams for side and my main is the pork tips delicious 😋 I tried the turkey tips to and they’re good too but I’m getting them pork tips fasho. I got full before I could dig into my pasta $43 well spent 😊

I ordered three (3) entrées today for THREE (3) people. I dont get how that is a difficult concept for you to understand. Renee, my mother (who you literally called a liar for leaving her own review, accusing me of "recruiting" a person to write a phony review) left HER OWN review based on HER opinion of HER food that I came into your restaurant to pick up while she waited in my car for almost 30 more minutes after we had called in our order. I have waaaayyy more intergrity than to stoop so low as having someone write phony reviews. My mom actually dined with you before and enjoyed the food and experience. SHAME ON YOU for providing a poor experience to customers and then arguing with/falsely accusing them through review comments. I hardly ever leave reviews, but felt it appropriate as when I requested to cancel my order in person (my initial solution) the staff practically had a fit as if I was wrong to want to do so. If the long wait was poor communication, why not offer SOME communication at all when I was waiting in your establishment in person? I had no confidence that a returned order would be met with a dignified agreeable response, much like this poor response I have received via Google reviews. Poor communication is one thing, NO communication is another. Miserable I am not, I was gracious enough to move forward with the transaction even though the experience was going badly. I pray peace finds you as well, because your restaurant will not thrive when you call your customers liars for leaving honest reviews. Take accountability and get better.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I called in my order (painstakingly as I could tell the person taking the order was unprepared to take down the order). Restaurants not having items in the early part of the day is normally a red flag for me, but I had heard good things so I wanted to give them a try. Ordered a $15.00 "large" rib tips meal with red beans and rice and yams, $15 "large" turkey tips meal with the same sides, and a shrimp and fries meal that had an online price listing of $15.00. Said I'd arrive in 20 mins to pick up. Waited 25 extra minutes making me late for an appointment, my order was wrong - I ended up with chicken instead of ribs - the red beans and rice was definitely not a Jamaican recipe (it looked like yellow rice from a box mixed with beans from a can) and I got watery mac and cheese in both orders even though I was offered dressing to substitute for the yams they didn't have (which was a sub for the cabbage they didn't have in the first place). They charged $30 for fried shrimp and french fries the quality of which I could order from the restaurant across the street a block further west for half the price. Not a single person was up front greeting customers, and the only time anyone came out of the back was when a family member stopped by to visit, at which point I asked to cancel the order I had been waiting almost an extra half hour for and was told "you're gonna have to tell him" and asked simultaneously (by 3 people in the kitchen) "why" I wanted to cancel since my order was "ready" (which it was not). The only reason I saw this terrible experience through was in an effort to support a black owned business. Keep that $66 and work on getting better. I, for one, will not be returning. But thank you to the guy who at least offered an apology for the bad experience.

I will never eat from here again! The service is slow. We called in the order, waited a few minutes to go pick it up and still waited 30 extra minutes for our food. The turkey tips are salty, the macaroni and cheese is watery and the red beans and rice is not made with white rice and the beans look like they came straight out of a can. They also got our order wrong, we didn't order chicken. I'm all for supporting black owned business but, people please do better! To the owner! I noticed in your response to my review you NOT ONCE refuted the fact that the service was slow and the food was not of good quality! Tierra placed an order for 3 people and I was one of them. The food was not good and the service was slow. I know this because I drove her to pick up the order. We didnt return your food because we didnt want the headache ! We just chalked it up to a $66.45 bad experience. This review is of my own opinion and not bogus at all. I find it funny that you can pinpoint who ordered what and when. Business must be good (NOT) Sorry but you don't have all the facts Miss ma'am or sir, whoever you are. Instead of arguing with customers over a bad review, do better for the people you serve!

Just got some Rib tips, Mac n cheese, and yams.. Overall delicious - Yams taste more like stuffing - Mac N cheese is better than expected. Rib tips sauce is sweet but delicious.

Definitely will try more and will need to get more from the menu. The people working there are super nice. Plus while you wait u can get a free cup of coffee/tea/hot chocolate.

IF you are on the fence of trying it - just go in and try it. LOTS of food for the price so even though it is a little pricey WELL worth the value.

My buddy had the jerk chicken i tried it the flavor was good just too spicy for me . They also informed me that they do a daily breakfast also will definitely have to give it a try. This place here is a taste of heaven!!! I was sitting around on a Friday night and needed a taste of Black Chicago food. After finding this place in my search of area black owned restaurants, the recent reviews lured me here. First and foremost, I walked in and smelled a potpourri of decadent smokey spices and bbq goodness. From there, one of the chefs/smoke masters immediately let me know that options were limited but tips and fries were still available, to which I replied “No problem—let me get that!” As an added reveal, he let me know they had hot links available for the combo upgrade. Met the owner, and she was delightful to talk to. So fast forward home, opened the container and it was packed well, generously with 4 links and hella tips. Fries were at the bottom, drenched in the drippings from the meat and some of the best bbq sauce you will taste in Chicago. Everything was absolutely delicious. Not one bite was less than stellar. Yall gotta hit them up. Worth every dollar and then some!

Great customer service but I wasn't impressed with the food. I thought this place would have had actual jerk food but that wasn't the case. I had turkey tips and a chicken bowl. My red beans and rice that came as a side to my turkey tips consist of yellow rice with red beans on top. I never seen anything like that before.

I don't know what happened to the big tall guy that was cooking the BBQ before but I've been here twice within the past week and my BBQ WAS NOT RIGHT. My 1st few experiences were great! My 1st order was a trio and I've been hooked since. Unfortunately they have a shortage on wings so I could only get the tip link combo. The Tips tasted old and tough and my hot. links were dry. I didn't leave a review that time because everyone has an off day. I didn't see any smoke like I normally do that covers the neighborhood and my house but i paid it no mind.But when I went back for the same thing it tasted exactly the same and again no smoke or meat on the grill The customer service is still great and the atmosphere is still awesome but the BBQ just isn't as good anymore. My husband visited last week to give this place a try because we stay around the corner and are committed to spending with B.O.B. I tried calling in an order this evening (3 dinners) for my family. I was told because it was a large order I would need to pay over the phone before they dropped the order, otherwise I would have to sit for 10 minutes for my order. I asked if each of us called our individual order in separately would they drop the order without paying over the phone. She said it wouldn't matter, just keep the order the way that it stands. I repeated what she stated about the reasoning to pay over the phone for the large order, etc. For some reason she did not understand what she initially said to me🤔. I explained to her that we are business owners too and that communication is everything. I proceeded to place the order for a pickup, but my husband said the tension over the phone did not make him comfortable having them prepare our food. Well, we are now in route to The Barrel Club for dinner and this local spot has been removed from my black owned business to visit ✊🏾.

My first time trying them and I must say I'm satisfied with my food. I order the mini tip which was more than a mini and had to substitute for a turkey link because they were closing was out of pork links but the turkey links was pretty good the ribs were tender and the sauce is good. The customer service from the ladies and cook Hutch was amazing will try the jerk and soul food side's tomorrow

Hutch was wonderful....he is one of the chef....the service was incredible....he let us try his special jerk sauce, it was phenomenal remind me of my great granddaddy’s secret recipe. The chicken was juicy! I definitely will be coming back TOMORROW on my lunch break.
