Jamaica Jerk Villa

Food is excellent as usual. My family loves the jerked chicken and cabbage , yams, and Mac & cheese....I ordered my catfish dinner and I ordered over the phone and I went there and waited for over an hour to pay for my food. It's not a place you can go if you only have an hour for lunch. The people were actually very nice compared to past experiences. I would like to have my favorite catfish as a dining in experience and sit on the new patio I saw last week for the 1st time. I want a chance to enjoy the new location without being crunched for time.

I rode pass this place twice in one day. I kept smelling their food before they open. I had plans on going elsewhere but come to find out the original place that I wanted to try was not open. I order the jerk wing lunch and dinner because with the jerk wing lunch you only get 3 wings however if you get the jerk wing dinner, you get 6 wings. My sides was red beans and rice, Mac&Cheese, order a small yams, a small callaloo and a salad. Now at first I was skeptical abt the Mac and cheese because it did look dry but the looks are deceiving. The taste was on point. The yams was flavorful. And this was my first time trying callaloo which is amazing. The plantains that come with your order was delicious as well. Definitely will come back and pig out so more. Now the inside is decorated nicely but they haven't gotten it inspected to fully operate. They need to hurry up because the vibes are giving. Now excuse me for the plates looking halfway gone but I was suppose to do a b4 and after but the way my belly was setup, it didn't go as plan! Just know everything was worth it and taste amazing!!!

If I had to rate this place I would rate them a 0 stars! This was my first experience and it was HORRIBLE! I called in my order over the phone 30 minutes ahead of arriving so I could just pick up the food and go. The lady who took my order was EXTREMELY rude over the phone that was my first red flag. Once I arrived the same lady who took my order over the phone was at the register collecting payments. As I stood in line the lady continued to have a very nasty attitude towards PAYING customers. When All in all the lady’s attitude was SO BAD I ended up requesting a refund due to the lady’s piss poor customer service or should I say lack of!! Please do better! I will not be returning! DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE!!!!

Went at 2pm on a Sunday. The line was outside of the door and most of the people in order had ordered ahead. I waited in line about 30 minutes and left after I heard the person at the front saying he ordered 2 hours ago and food STILL wasn’t ready. It seems like instead of hiring 2 more people to move the line in the front of the house, the owners are greeedy and overwork one person. They won’t change unless we talk with our dollars

Jerk Villa has been my go to spot since 2010. The only jerk spot I can say the JERK SAUCE is 🔥🔥🔥 perfectly seasoned with a resistance taste but also spicy as 🤧 but good. The second best is the Chicken fresh batches be on point. The third best but is mostly everyone's best is what they always run out of first the YAMS!!!!😭😭😭 but yes the best Chicago jerk spot don't believe me go shop. Yes customer service is on the sour side but you have to understand they work 6 days a week orders overload. So it's exhausting especially when you've dealt with rude customers all day. BEST HOOKED JERK SAUCE IN THE CITY DON'T BELIEVE ME GO SHOP.

I drove all the way over to this restaurant on 5/11/23 around 1:30pm to sit down and try what I’ve heard is good jerk chicken. Only to walk in and the seated area looked closed and there was a line. I attempted to ask the lady at the register if we could sit down but she looked so irritated that she didn’t even want to answer the question. Her standing with a bedtime bonnet on. I’m big on customer service when I choose to spend my hard earned money anywhere! I won’t be back! That way, I won’t have to annoy your frontline workers. We have to do ALOT better in our black owned businesses! I’m not giving anyone a pass. If I can go in “other” restaurants and be greeted with positivity and smile, why can’t “our” businesses do the same? I’m sure the food is good! Sucks the customer service is terrible. Advice to increase business: first, this place has fantastic tasting food, and the biggest issue is the long wait times. I think a simple solution to this is to implement the equivalent of a self checkout / check in line. Start requesting people's phone numbers when they order over the phone, have a spot at the bar for these people to check in with name and phone number. Have an employee who regularly checks this section with a separate P.O.S. system and who checks IDs. Have a separate employee who also works this,but their job is to prepare and package food orders. From talking to customers here, it seems that they would love to here more often, but hate the long wait times. I fall into that same category. Crack the code of on how you can expedite pick up orders(especially on weekends and evenings) and you will get more business. It's as simple as just hiring one extra person and improving the check in process. Wishing the best, but I will like to say that this place has been highly recommended and a great Go for my family, we would exclusively go here for our jerk chicken, but the wait times are the biggest kicker. I've talked to people in 3 separate occasions and they all agreed about the times. I'd you think that I'm tripping do a quick customer survey or hire a person who excels in productivity for a single day and get them to show you how to expand efficiency. Crack that and whoever cooks the food or made the recipe at this location, will quickly find themself opening another with the same success.

Ordered a dark dinner and a side of 3 catfish. Get to my destination, and I have a half white. Called and Kim (the managed explained that a dinner is both white and dark unless you ask for dark (which is what I asked for). Didn’t ask for white. I wanted a jerk dinner, I called for approximately 20 minutes no answer😩 I then walked in to purchase my order which was a jerk chicken dinner mixed with yams and cabbage. The wait time was 45minutes to almost a hour. (It felt longer)1st red flag. I waited because I really wanted this jerk. Not knowing it was gonna take that long, at least 10 or more people came in after me received their food before me. 2nd red flag.I heard the lady ask for #85 at least 5 or more times 3rd red flag. I was finna ask for a refund and I should have. I wanted to check my food before I left but I just knew in my heart this food was finna be the bomb! NOT! 4th red flag. The chicken terrible , they must have given me the last of the batch before the 10+ people before me, cabbage wasn't fully cook nice amount though and the yams were just ok, finally the bread was fresh (usually not). Be prepared for a long wait- even if you order ahead.

And someone PLEASE tell the owner/operations manager that I should not need to produce an ID and physical credit/debit card to pay for my order in 2023. I can use secure, contactless payments such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay.

After waiting 37 minutes and. spending $76 for 2 oxtail and 1 jerk chicken
plate.
This is the ABSOLUTE WORST excuse for Jamaican food, that I have ever encountered in MY ENTIRE LIFE! My man came to Chicago from Atlanta, and I brought him here thinking it would be a hit…HE COULD NOT STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT HOW HORRIBLE THE FOOD TASTED. I quote “ I don’t know who was in the kitchen cooking, BUT THEY ARE NOT FROM JAMAICA!”

The oxtail was dry…IDK how that happens, the rice and peas were cooked perfectly however the “straight out the can” gravy that they doused it in, ruined the entire dish. Nothing about it screams jerk or bbq jerk. There was literally not a single shred of cheese,pulling from the Mac n Cheese..it was just Mac (refer to picture). As I write this review I’m still picking through my plate trying to find a bright spot and I must say the jerk chicken is seasoned and grilled decently, but whoever made this sauce need to reconsider their entire viewpoint on jerk because this is marinade they gave me.

I honestly would give this place a half star if I could, they should have never moved from the original location. I pray the cook sees this and decides to retrain themselves or seek authentic help, because the current situation is appalling to people spending their hard earned money :,-(

1st and last time here! Myself and two other family members walked I and placed our orders. My brother ordered for himself and another brother, so our order numbers were 21, 22 and 23. For some reason 24 through 31 received their orders before any of us. We started complaining, then they gave us #23 (chicken), then #22 oxtail. They said the last order will be out in 5 minutes and said the shrimp was the hold up!! Why would the shrimp be holding up an order when it only takes maybe 5 minutes to cook??? Just crazy!! And the lack of customer service is extremely sad! DO BETTER!!

Major bummer of a restaurant. Called in an order of a side of veggies 30 minutes ahead. The business doesn’t take payment over the phone. I get to the restaurant and the line is 20+ deep. One line for both call-in pickups and new orders. Myself and the person in front of me were told both of our orders were ready. Waited 25 minutes, line barely moved, and the food is right there, ready, just needed to be paid for.

I told the staff I was a teacher in the neighborhood and my prep period was running out of time and I needed to get back. Asked if I could leave cash and go but was told no, so I needed to cancel my order after having now waited close to an hour after ordering just for a side of veggies.

On the way back to work I called and asked if there was any way I could still support the business and pay over the phone or another alternative. The woman said they don’t take any payments ahead of time. I was in the process of asking if it was okay to place an order and pay a day in advance and the woman hung up on me.

Major, major bummer of a restaurant and a burned prep period (massive for a teacher) and day without lunch.

Stove top Mac, cabbage wasn’t done and super hard with no flavor. The jerk chicken was ok though but without the sides for 30 dollars it was a waste!

On October 24th 2023 I called my order in I ordered 20 wings I was told I could pick them up within 30 minutes by the girl who took my order she told me to hold on and yelled to the back and ask did they have the 20 wings available? I heard them say yes she said yes you can come and pick them up in about 20 to 45 minutes, it took me 45 minutes to drive to that location on 79th St., at their new location. I park my car and make it inside only to be told there are no wings. This came from someone other than the girl that took my order it’s the same rude gargoyle looking woman. Who is constantly upsetting the customers she doesn’t know how to speak to people she’s always getting into it with people and she’s just plain old classless and ignorant. I will never go there again because of her she thought it was funny because I was upset about the 20 wings. She was giggling and smirking the whole time and if you plan on going there, make sure you have a bulletproof vest. The neighborhood is very dangerous and the people are thirsty Good luck with that.

This is one of Chicago’s premier places for jerk chicken when you’re in Chicago even though Chicago has multiple jerk chicken restaurants that are to die for. Jerk Villa just stands out among all of them.

As a forgiving individual, I have gone to Jerk Villa on and off for years despite there rude behavior and potentially spoiled food. Recently (10-18-23), I ordered 2 veggie plates (cabbage, rice and peas) and upon receiving my order, I noticed the food smelled like it might have been spoiled. Silly me, I disregarded it and went on.

After, I got home, I ate a small portion and within an hour after consuming the meal my stomach started to hurt so I took Alka Seltzer. The rest of the meal remained in the refrigerator until tha next day. I threw the remaining food away because the spoiled smell had gotten worse.

I called Jerk Villa on (10-21-23) and told a staff member about the spoiled food and they denied serving spoiled food and blamed my stomach issues on other foods I may have eaten not theirs. Terrible interaction andI will never eat there again.

I gotta admit I was definitely disappointed in my food I received today. My jerk chicken was burnt and my Mac & cheese was definitely watered down. Food is definitely too expensive to be messing up.

I really hate to write this but you all have got to make this right. Ordered today and the whole order was inedible trash. You cannot tell me this food was cooked today. Offered to bring it back and the lady said to take it up with Uber Eats. Uber is not trying to hear it. One of the people even went to the restaurant and was given no assistance. Almost $200 worth of food that was garbage.

It's not worth the money. I literally paid $17 for a dinner with 3 pc of meat, a lot of red beans and rice, and 5pc of yams. 1st of the dinner should automatically come with red beans and rice then you get 2 sides. I won't go back.

Called in a Lunch Special was told 30mins. Got there order wasn’t ready; when order was ready it was a Dinner Special. The cashier wanted to charge me for the full price for the dinner or make me wait an additional 15mins for a New Order. I voiced my opinion as I didn’t have time to wait for a new order nor did I want to pay $25 for something I expected to pay $11.50 for. However, the cashier cancels my order and blocks my number. I will never attempt to shop here again! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

Food taste so good. I like everything. We got jerk chicken, rice, beans, macaroni and cheese and a great sauce. The presentation of the food was great too. I'll make sure to take a picture the next time around.

Believe it or not this was my first time trying the jerk villa on 79th & was perfect. The food was fresh, hot, flavorful hands down the best Jerk I’ve had. I always visit the one on Michigan because it’s closer to my house but this one easily takes the cake EVERYTHING is better here. I don’t think I’ll ever go on Michigan again.

I've been a customer for many years and although it's been a few years since I had them I was excited to hear they upgraded and wanted to try their food again. I ordered a mixed chicken dinner w/ Mac and yams... And expected red beans and rice since that's what I remembered getting before. Here's my rating on my most current experience. Mac = 5 not cheesy enough for me, flavorless Yams = 7 I liked the flavor. Chicken = 8 it was good, tasted like jerk. Bread =0 what the heck happened with the soft Jamaica bread?? This bread was either old or just hard and tasteless. Overall not bad but the fact that I paid 20 bucks for a jerk dinner that didn't come with rice = 0. Consistency is key even when you BECOME successful. I had better at other places, paid less and got a hell of a meal.

I’ve never been to Jerk Villa before and I’ve heard so many good things about them. That was not my experience today. I ordered the 4 wing dinner with no gravy and the wings were hard, like very hard and dry. The rice & beans were horrible, I mean just horrible. They were very dry and tasted old. The best thing was the cabbage. The cabbage was fresh, spicy, delicious. I won’t be going back to this place.

Update*** they made it right by remaking my order today- no issues and the plate looks magnificent! I travel often and Jerk Villa on 79th in Chicago is the best I’ve had over the years. There’s not a Jamaican restaurant in any state I’ve visited that has beaten this taste. This must have been a mistake- my plate is missing rice & peas. I am devastated the rice & peas are the best part. Please call me- I will be calling when you repopen. My Auntie plate is also missing rice & peas. The oxtail plate is also missing it’s double side of rice & peas we requested. If it’s because we got two sides.. we would have gladly paid for the additional side. Instead of just missing rice & peas…The fish is overly cooked- very hard. Many years eating here I don’t understand why the quality wasn’t in the plate tonight- maybe we came to late. Came from Bloomington, IL today- I usually come from wherever I reside when I visit.

Got ready to order the lady decided she to pass out orders. Then we ordered wings and white meat. She stated they didn't have any. This was after the person in front of us ordered a half white. We called to see if it was true...those nasty rude folks took our order for wings and white meat. We hung up on them and will NEVER EVER PATRONIZE THEM AGAIN. First time and last time there......always our people...then again I'm not Jamaican so guess not.

A Chicago staple- to say the least!

It’s well worth the wait 😆. The SAUCE is the real MVP. The jerk chicken & jerk fish dishes are always grilled to perfection.

My favorite sides are the rice and beans, cabbage, plantains and candied yams!

I always order extra jerk sauce because it allows me to jerk some things at home.

If you love jerk food, the Villa is the way to go ☺️

Quality food takes time. Order ahead, be patient, & tip the cashier.

Upon entry, i felt completely lost.

Letter size menus on the wall..unnoticeable. Huge garage door. No chairs or tables while you wait. I didnt think we were in the right place.

The order taker was behind this big counter.

One by one, the orders were taken and given thru a walkie talkie. There were like 10 people waiting for their orders. Some had been there a while. It seem we were the order that got the last chickens. People were frustrated thst there were more chicken, mac and cheese, oxtails..
Sold out.

The order taker even locked the doors to keep people from coming in. In fact at one point, a guy was knocking on the door. Another customer let him in as with others, as they continued to come in with a sense of hope in their face, that there will be some food left. He asked the order taker if they had this or that. The way he was reacting to the order taker's reply, i thought he was a hype and this food was his crack! But the order taker said they only had a couple of sides left. he then asked, "do you have anything you didnt sell?" She said no. Meanwhile the guy noticed another gentleman at the end of the counter with an incomplete order. He then asked the gentleman, "I will buy what you have, just name your price!"

Now i dont know what kind of crack was in this food, but when the guy asked the order taker to break a $100 bill and bought his food from another customer, he had my interest seriously peaked! I turned to my husband and said, "what in the dickens is in this food! This food must be off the chain! The rest of the customers stood patiently as their orders can back from the kitchen. It felt like a seinfeld episode where you didnt want to complain at the risk of losing your order. It was almost funny if i wasnt so tired

Why the 5 stars?

The food was off the chain! My husband had goat meat with rice and beans and i had the jerk catfish with yams and rice and beans ...because there was no more oxtails. And my friends the chicken. Not only was the thick catfish was in the tact, the char on that fish was so flavorful and the season ....right down to the bone. Everything was soooooo good, i understand what the commotion was about.

So when u come, bring a bag of patience and some comfortable shoes. Its worth the wait

This place is most definitely a hit and miss., 79th street. I called in two jerk dinners, waited 25min plus a extra 10min before I picked it up and when I got there, I still had to wait 20min. I received my food, went back to work opened it and the chicken seemed that it had been in the warmer all day. Very dry and hard. I called and spoke to the manager and all she could say was she was sorry and that I can bring it back within 24hrs. If I had the time I would have. First, they knew that they were selling old and dried out chicken, second, they never have plantains, thirdly, the jerk seasoning is over seasoned and very salty. Anyone can look at chicken and notice that it's fresh or not, however, they sold it anyway. I advise to check your chicken before you leave the restaurant unless you have time to take it back.
