Decided to have dinner after reading many positive reviews. Started off with freshly made chunky guacamole & chips.
Shrimp tacos were spicy, yet good.
AL Pastor tacos were delicious.
Mezcal Margarita hits.
Rosalina was attentive, knowledgeable & gave really good recommendations.
Three stars for service bcuz I wasn’t given an option to sit at the bar, after asking the male host If there’s somewhere else I can sit besides the table in the middle of the walkway.

Come for the quesabirria and stay for the vibe (and the coco tres leches cake). My review is long overdue, but better late than never! I went with some good friends and we all enjoyed every bite of what we ordered. They ordered the mole enchiladas and I got the quesabirria tacos. These are BY FAR the most delectable quesabirria tacos you will ever have. Try them! You will thank me. Also, their black beans are delicious! I don't really drink so I had their pin̈a colada mocktail and it was YUM. I was probably too full for dessert, but I had to get a slice of the coco tres leches. My friends had the oreo one, so I got to try both, but I preferred mine. Honestly, it was one of the best meals I've had and I will likely repeat it. Lastly, the music was great. I asked if it was a Pandora or Spotify station and they said it was their own compilation of customer and staff favorites. Anyway, the food and the atmosphere was a whole vibe. I highly recommend it!

The food is always amazing at Bárbaro! The birria tacos are excellent - but I’ve also had the quesadillas, tacos al pastor, and sopes - and everything has been perfect. I also love the beet margarita here - so fresh! The service here is also fantastic and the music makes for a great vibe. I can’t wait to go back each time I go!

Little upscale Mexican restaurant! We had a steak burrito, steak enchiladas, Gordita and corn deep. My favorite was Gordita. It seems like they make corn tortillas from scratch, maybe that was why tortillas in enchiladas were so thick.. my husband liked it but i prefer thin tortillas, it was almost same thickness as Gordita. I didn’t really like enchiladas sauce, it was too runny and little different from authentic enchiladas. And I like they served with salad but enchiladas sauce was everywhere so it ruined salad, I think if they serve the salad in the little bowl then it would be way better.
We brought leftover food to home and we found some piece of plastic from burritos. Hmmm…

This is a true gem of the neighborhood. We just moved to the neighborhood a month ago and have already been at least once a week given the quality of food and the service. I highly recommend the chorizo nachos and their burritos are always a good go to.

Really wanted to enjoy this neighborhood spot! Unfortunately their tuna tostadas gave me food poisoning, their guacamole was bland and no one’s food was better than average. Their drinks were fun and the server even gave us free shots as it rained outside while we sat in the patio. We had odd encounter with the bus boy (?) and left feeling like we had committed an error. I would recommend this place for drinks it had a fun vibe and I can vouch for that.

Went to Barbaro on a Tuesday night. I had just missed the happy hour which runs from 4 to 6. I came at 6:10. Darn. I had the ribeye tacos and they were unbelievable. Great tortilla a good chew to it. The meat was cooked to perfection. The crispy potato strings added an awesome crunch the layer of beans added a hearty touch. And the salsa… Was Fire in a good way?

I had a spicy Mezcal margarita one of the best margaritas I’ve had in the city the bartender Hassan is cool as hell and makes some cocktails. I’m definitely coming back and maybe a regular here as I live right down the street.

Our group of 5 found this gem on a whim while hunting for Mexican food near Bucktown this past Saturday night. By the time dinner was done, the phrase "best tacos I've ever had" was being passed around by more than a few of us. We started off with the guac and chips which lit up our taste buds, and after seeing classic margaritas being delivered to numerous tables, it was an easy decision on drinks. Most of us shared a mixed set of tacos which were unbelievable in freshness and taste. All of the tacos we picked were rock stars but I am fairly sure the pork belly ones were out of this world. Such a great spot within walking distance of our Bucktown apartment. We will be back!!!!! 👌👌

I've been here a few times to eat in and take out. During the summer it's nice to sit outside and enjoy the food and weather. It is also nice to eat inside since the ambiance is cool, the music is not too loud and the staff is friendly.

The tacos, quesadillas, tortas, and burritos are really good, and the drinks have gotten better, i like the piña colada.
Rudy and Suyanna have been good serving.
There is paid parking around, there are no complimentary chips to start, I like their red salsa. I'll keep coming back.

Such a cute spot and great addition to the neighborhood. Couldn’t get enough of the fresh homemade tortillas. We also tried the queso fundido, birria tacos and pollo milanesa torta, all of which were so delicious. They also had happy hour drink specials. Only downside was when it got busy, it was hard to hear each other over the tables next to us and lots of kids running around in close proximity. Overall we had a good experience and we greatly appreciated the friendly service and yummy food.

If you have to wait, DO IT! The food is phenomenal! We had the queso with al pastor. 💰💰💰 also had the bean app. Mix the two! That's all I gotta say about that! My wife and I split the Mahi fish tacos, habenero sauce on the side. And an al pastor burrito. Best Mexican I've had in the city. It survived Covid. So that is saying something since it opened just before the fake pandemic!

Been here a couple times now and absolutely love it! Food is so flavorful without being oversalted, cocktails delicious and atmosphere is so interesting with amazing music, dark vibe, and unique artwork without being kitschy. My only warning is that everything is SUPER spicy but if you can handle it it’s totally worth it. I had the chix enchiladas with mole and it was perfection! We ate and also with drinks for dinner and bill was $75. A steal these days. Can’t wait to go back!

This place is incredible, and probably doesn't get the attention it deserves. I particularly liked how they offer cocktails that are creative spins on traditional Mexican drinks and made with fresh ingredients (highly recommend their Piña Colada, as it's made with tepache). We ordered a few plates to share, and were impressed all around. This place was busy on a Saturday night and does not take reservations, so we had to wait about 30 minutes for a table. This didn't bother us at all, since the host provided exceptional service and also as Boulevard Sports Lounge is just a couple doors down. Hope this place continues to do well, as it's situated off a somewhat quiet strip near Wicker Park.

10/10 Great Experience and Value. If you're looking for a place to hang out and get some 🔥 tacos with booze this is the place for you.

The Birria Taco is a must have, I have no idea how it stays so crunchy while being dipped. The combo of the flavor and texture is mind blowing and it will knock your socks off. The shrimp and steak burrito were also really good, but the Birria is where it's at.

If you're in the Humboldt area this place is a must try and fits perfectly in the neighborhood.

Disappointed. We stayed at B&B nearby. Host had recommended Barbaro. Since it was so convenient, i walked over for a takeout order. We had looked at the menu online. Chicken Parmesan was listed at $14.00. However, when I was given the bill at the restaurant, it was $18.00. When I asked the waitress why there was a discrepancy in price, she said "I don't know." When I looked at the in-house menu, chicken parmesan was not even listed. Furthermore, they do not take cash. They charge a service fee when you are forced to use credit. Due to these unpleasant events, we will not be returning.

Magnifico!! The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful, the kitchen prepared a tasty meal without a wait. The whole atmosphere was friendly snd inviting.

The CAMPECHANOS were as tasty as ever. My margarita cleansed the palate and was as smooth. Then there was the agave... let's just say earthy, woody and with a hint of a barrel of some sort. Perfecto!

As for the gent who was miffed about the window closingl impacting his experience. ... I'm so sorry for you; that was started by moi. Yes, I was the one who hopped through the window and started the chain of events that ruffled your feathers.

After being informed by the staff about the liability should I fall (and and any kids who may follow suit) I fully understood their concern. I did apologized to them; perhaps I should have apologized to you as well.

I found out later that the staff explained the situation to you before you wrote your review. To then make "windowgate" the focus of your review seems petty, to say the least.

This was one of the worst experiences. We drove an hour just to go try this place, we got there, and the service was ok. The waiter gets to our table. At this point, he is already upset 😡 not sure of what! We had no menu or qrcode to scan, we are placing our order drink come is all good, at the time the place was not full it had just opened we are a family of 5 the tables are set up for 4, our appetizers comes out he is upset that I sat on the table next to us, we had no space he tells me to move because other people would sit there!!! There is no one there!!!! I said fine give us a bigger table!!!" He made a comment towards my kids. Once you don't welcome my kids, you don't welcome us!!! This place is not for families! I felt so discriminated against just for having kids! This is a place I will NEVER BE GOING BACK AND IF POSSIBLE TO GIVE ZERO STARS I WOULD!!!

Try the pork belly tacos with the pickled vegetables. They really compliment each other. Excellent music, attentive service, homemade everything but the beer. Highly recommend!

Before I headed home gave this place a try. Start of course with the old-fashioned, and the bartender definitely made a solid drink bro was awesome. I ended up getting a steak burrito and it was cool nothing crazy by any stretch of the imagination. Bartender gave me some green sauce to hit it with and no complaints it said a solid burrito. The drinks were what I really was there for...so I wasn't too mad. Overall was a good vibe customer service was cool. Definitely will be back to get the entire vibe and try the rest of the menu. Drinks 9.0, food 7.0.

Update - The second visit and tried their Asada Gorditas and this was really good... a nice size and a healthy portion of steak. Came with spicy guacamole on the side and got it with the green sauce too. I enjoyed this very much 8.5. Tried the oreo tres leche cake...its was different for me. I didn't like it...the wet cake I'm not fully digging. But, overall it was good the more ate it I enjoyed a little more. 7.5.

Always a nice bite to eat. We tend to share plates because everything is so good it's hard to choose. Tasty tacos, brunch chilaquiles is flavorful! Pork belly tacos were top tier. Asada and barbacoa were also amazing. Try the hefty margaritas. My go to taco spot lately

I found this place on Google and decided to try it on Easter Day with my family. Lucky for us, it wasn't crowded and they were able to accommodate our large party. Everything about this place was excellent 👌 👏. Our waiter, (I think his name was Daniel ) was awesome and bilingual. My parents appreciated that. The food was delicious, everything we had was great. The appetizers and dessert are a must try! We will definitely return to this restaurant. Very cool atmosphere too.

Omg! We took a little trip to Bárbaro and fell in LOVE with the food, chsrming ambiance, and incredible service!!

Met up with a large group of friends for our own Happy Hour.

We ordered fundido, barbacoa tacos, chicken flautas, chips and guacamole that was out of this world.

Drinks were flowing with my group. I ordered 2 blueberry and sage margaritas. One with Moscato and the 2nd in tequila. Both were good but I like the tequila better. Really flavorful and soooo pretty, honestly.

Our service was tremendous!! And the place was so crowded by 5/6 pm.

We cannot wait to go back. Seriously one of my fav Mexican food joints!!

Husband and I have been coming here about once a month for the past few months and have not had a bad experience yet. The food is quick, delicious, and very reasonably priced. The cocktails always seem to be rotating and make this an exciting place to visit

If you’re looking for a bit of Mexico City in Chicago, you’re in right place. Bàrbaro is ever so cozy and never too loud. Everything we ate here is delicious, but tuna tostadas are simply mind blowing, with the freshest tuna and crispy fried leeks and perhaps some magic. Esquites are fantastic. Mushroom tacos are out of this world. Highly, highly recommended.

We loved coming here as a family with my wife and a 3 year old son. Food is great, my son loved the music and everyone was having a good time.

But then Breezey, restaurant manager, kept telling my 3 year old to sit still in his seat, that he cannot walk around the restaurant, and that he has to keep his feet off the seat cushion. I have visited thousands of restaurants (as we like to go out), many of them more fancier than Barbaro, and no one ever treated us/ told my son to keep still in his seat. He is a 3 year old and he will be moving around. I am not sure what Breezey's upbringing was, but I am not raising my child to be a robot. This is not an isolated incident - happened many times and on multiple locations.

OK, cool. But I would not leave 1 star review just for above. So at one point I said that I wanted to speak with the owner and to provide feedback. Or simply to agree that maybe this is not a family oriented restaurant so that we go somewhere else for the future. If I would have had a chance to speak with the owner, and agree that it is not a good fit, I would not be leaving a 1 star review.

When I asked Breezey to speak with the owner, she said he is not available. Then I asked for a phone number and she said that she cannot give it away. So I gave Breezey my phone number and asked to be contacted by the owner (David) but nobody ever called me back. I stopped by the place one more time and asked Breezey why I was not contacted and she said yes David will call me. Nobody called. I am not sure if Breezey never passed on the message to David or if David did not bother calling me, but here is 1 star review for bad customer service.

Our actual server, Brian, was always great - 5 stars for him!

One of my new favorite places. Always walked by and it seemed really great but I’m so happy I made a trip! Brandon made sure our experience was wonderful, being attentive, bringing more chips and drinks!

I personally don’t care for fish but their fish tacos are out of this world. I honestly couldn’t tell it was fish but I could tell you it was delicious!! The steak burrito slapped, chorizo quesadilla was amazing and don’t leave out the salsa! If you’re a fan of spicy this is the place for you! 12/10!! 10 stars!! Adding into my top restaurants for Chicago!! I

LEGIT! Had every taco and was delicious. Everyone even stole a bite of my mushroom taco, which seemed to be as popular as the Pastor and Campechano. Cocktails were great and prices are good. Happy hour was 👌

Pains me to write this, cause I want to support my people but its a BàrbarNo for me. I've dined in and did carry-out on 3 separate occasions, and every time the food has no taste. I was so disappointed the last time I had it, that it prompted this review. I see all of these great reviews and wonder if they have taste buds lol.
