Carmen with her sister Maria owns the family business even though I don't speak Spanish they are both awesome and they make me feel like I'm a part of their family when I come in there to order shrimp cocktail with extra fresh avocado with Jarritos Mexican soda lime which is my favorite on learning how to speak Spanish I just know a little of it so far the rest of the staff are kind also Carmen's daughter Jocelyn is very nice

Excellent! I ordered the molle enchiladas and they were very delicious! Very authentic, well made, good portions where you are satisfied, but not "stuffed" which is great. Great friendly service!

I thought this place was legit and have been here on approximately 5 occasions in the past two months. On 24 April 2022, I was with a friend, and a series of troubling events occurred that bear my informing any future customers. At approximately 7 PM on that date above, I requested one more shot of Cazadores and one more Dos Equis beer. The receipt attached shows that I had three prior Dos Equis and one shot of Cazadores. The waitress gave me an additional receipt for approximately $15.00, but never delivered my drinks. After waiting approximately 5 minutes or so, I informed our waitress that she did not pour the shot and did not give me the Beer. She then summoned a second waitress. My friend and I explained the situation to her. That waitress then disappeared for a moment, and a male subject appeared behind the Bar. We explained the error to him, and that I never received the drinks. The unknown male took the receipt, explaining that he has seen us in the restaurant on several occasions and as a result he was not going to charge me for the two drinks that I NEVER received. He explained he has cameras which actually made me feel better. I told him that I was glad they had cameras and wanted them to look at the video. Needless to say, they never showed me anything and never gave me the drinks I had ordered. This establishment embarrassed me and my friend wrongfully in front of other customers. They never gave me the drinks I ordered and treated me like I had done something wrong. I posted about the situation on The Hegewisch Community page basically requesting that I wanted them to show the video to clear up the situation. That post was immediately removed. They know they were wrong and refuse to make amends by admitting their mistake. Needless to say I wasted hundreds of dollars at this place and was treated like garbage. I would definitely NOT recommend this establishment to anyone. Not legit!

I was starting to get used to coming here with my family. But, a change of heart ❤️ last night. It was a family of 2 adults, 1 teen and 2 lil ones. We have gone before and paid the most $55-$65. But, last night Uuuuh weeee. Didn't even order expensive items came out to $103 & change. Man, be careful that GRATUITY will get you unexpectedly like it did us. I'm glad we had just enough to cover the cost.
(We tip our wait staff good where ever we go).
*But at 15-18%.
And without notice.
They have signs up about the use of the debit/ credit cards. But no where did I see the change of charges to your bill.
Come On Taquin.
Note: now it makes sense why there's more people getting Take Out.... geeeez.
It's sad that pretty soon. We're not gonna be able to enjoy family time at restaurants.

FYI- Before people start to talk negative.
(I used to wait on tables & work in restaurants. So I know how it feels. That's why we tip the servers & bus Boys. They have bills and family to support also)

***Let people know what your doing as far as charging Gratuity. People might just have enough to pay what they are used too. They go up to pay and don't have enough for the bill. Then what.

Everything I’ve ever tried is delicious! Queso fundido is our favorite appetizer. Tacos, burritos, guisados, and menudo all flavorful. Tried a cantarito and it was great! The service is always quick and friendly. Music can be a bit loud depending on where you sit but my family loves this place.

Went for dinner. Chips and salsa were good. The food was ok not great by far. I did not like the flavor/seasoning in the rice. They give you a small salad piled onto your plate w french dressing which mixes into the food. The place is clean. The service is ok. Maybe breakfast will be better. Will not be back for dinner.

Food was very delicious. Bathroom was very neat and clean. Restaurant very neat. We had no issues in the neighborhood either. No one greeted me when I entered just kinda stared for a second after I said hello, and the. I asked to use the restroom since my husband had already come in and ordered. It took quite a while for our food to be ready but it was worth the wait. Not being greeted was my first impression though and I’m big on “do it right the first time.” Clean space though, easy to find, good taste. Sorry y’all I didn’t take pics this time. We were coming off a fast and let’s just say we swallowed it a fast as we got it lol.

Chips were stale. Had to wait a while for our food despite being the only people here. The food wasn't hot and did not taste fresh at all. Salsa was very good though.

This is the best Hispanic food within a 50 mile radius in hegewisch, Hammond, and Calumet city. If you haven't eaten here or been in their restaurant you are missing out.

They have a good bar there. I recommend the steak tacos or burrito. Tv inside and a jukebox. Nice spicy salsa and chips served if dinning in . I'll be back for more 👍

Great Mexican food. Rice is excellent! Best in the East Side/Hegwisch 'hoods. Not expensive. Great service. Drawback? No parking but not too hard to find it on the streets.

We often go to lunch or dinner here while working. The restaurant is very clean and the staff is polite and accommodating. The food is the best part as it is outstanding. I highly recommend the Bistec a la Mexicana and the Guisado de Puerco.

The young lady with glasses had a hard time taking my order. After repeating it to her three times. She was rude and gave an attitude after she messed up my order. I went home ate and 20 minutes later I threw all the food up.

I am a regular customer and I eat at the restaurant frequently with my mother! This is a Hegewisch Jem 💎 very warm and friendly. And very attentive customer service! The only good place to eat this side of town. I wish them good luck in their new expansion this place deserves it. I love their food. 5 stars for El Taquin! I highly recommend it! 😊
