Sofi came as a recommendation so we thought we’d give it a try. All I can say is WOW! Such a great dining experience!

Short wait to be seated. Service/server was amazing. Started with the grilled baby octopus, entree was a rigatoni special for evening and Pannetone for desert. Everything was exceptional! Highly recommend!

Suboptimal food and poor service.

Just adding couple more details to clarify on my experience.

1. Ordered pasta pescatora. It seems that seafood and pasta were cooked separately and mixed before serving, tomatos were not cooked at all, no salt was used ever.

2. I've seen my waiter only once when he was taking my order. Had to catch random waiter to order desert.

3. Had to go to the bar to get the check and pay for food.

Bit too much issues for 85$ dinner bill for one.

Dear owner, thank you but no.

the restaurant serves very good Italian cuisine, however its practices are very questionable because they apply an automatic tip whereas here in the USA it is the customer who decides the amount.

My second review (this time correct ... sorry, Sofi! ... the other one deleted) as Google misplaced some photos from a (lovely) breakfast previously, just up the road ...

What a fabulous meal, al fresco, in Chicago. Wonderfully attentive staff, full of conversation, and terrific high-end Italian cuisine to boot. We both had pastas, which were excellent. A cocktail 🍸, some wine, and then the pictured desert to round off the experience.

Walking past, the next day, a smile from our waiter.

If the food and service is as we experienced, you will not be disappointed!! L'opposto!

Absolutely hits the sweet spot of cozy, authentic, and refined without pretention. The staff was phenomenal and attentive, but we never felt pressured or rushed. Just well taken care of. Our server (Gaspare, I believe) proved guidance where needed (including a perfect wine recommendation and some ideas that were definitely going to try next time!) and elevated or experience with his insights and overall service. And the food! Expertly prepared and obviously fresh, Sofi's chefs understand authentic Italian cooking is made to accent the natural flavors or fresh food, not overpower it. It's rare to find, and really special.

Came here with a friend for dinner after a fun and long day adventuring around the city. I've been here before several times and really do like the place - the ambiance is quaint, warm, and comfortable. The staff talk to each other in Italian, which adds to the experience.

We both had the trofie pesto; it was excellent and the best dish we had. We also got the artichoke fondue and were wanting a few more artichokes in there. For dessert we had the pistachio gelato which, although good, tasted more like almond flavoring than pistachios.

Service was a bit slow and casual. Having actually been to Italy, that's how it is. Overall a good experience and I plan to return!

Cozy little restaurant. Bread was good but the main course was a bit disappointing for my boyfriend and I. Wait staff was not very friendly and did the bare minimum. The shortrib I got was mostly fat therefore 50% inedible. Polenta was good but the melted fat that seeped into it ruined it in spots. I didn't want to eat too much and upset my stomach. We had high hopes and saved this for our fancy restaurant at the end of a romantic trip. Boyfriend's gnocchi was underwhelming as well for the price. Potato gratin was good.

Very quaint joint with gourmet dishes. I tried their restaurant week menu and savored the crab cake (don't pass it up!), braised short ribs, and the panna cotta. I'm not generally a panna cotta fan, but theirs was SO good. They also have a nice wine selection to choose from; our group chose the Matias Cabernet and it was the perfect combo with our meal. My only complaint is how loud and somewhat cramped it was in the dining room. There was also a large party sharing the space, so may not be an everyday occurrence. Overall we had a great experience I would recommend to others.

I don't mind paying for an expensive meal it it is good quality food, but this was not the case at Sofi. The seafood tasted rancid, I could find a frozen dinner at the grocery store of better quality than the ossobuco. One cocktail (in a dirty glass), one appetizer and two mains for $148 before tip. The staff was nice and the restaurant is cute, but I will not be returning. Sofi, I sure your restaurant was amazing at onetime, but the lack in quality ingredients and lack of passion for food coming from the kitchen is very sad to see. Do better.

We dined here as a party of 3 the night before the Chicago Marathon. I had made a reservation ahead of time because I didn't want to worry about not getting in somewhere the night before the race.

This place was SLAMMIN. The food spoke for itself. 100% authentically cooked Italian food every step of the way. The ingredients are great quality and you will not be disappointed with anything you order.

That being said, there was a glitch with their reservation system that night, and there was a backup for tables. We were comfortable waiting, and the quality of the food was never sacrificed even as tables were being turned over and over all night.

We 100% would recommend the food here, the staff is so kind, hard working and insistent on you enjoying yourself during your dining experience!

We were recommended this restaurant by a friend that said it was the best near the Loop. Unfortunately, our experience tonight made it one of the most horrific restaurant experiences we've ever had. I'd highly recommend anyone in the South Loop take their business to Tuscany instead; they're at least kind to their customers.

To summarize what happened tonight and why we'll never return:
* We expected to be 10 minutes late on a ~430pm~ reservation, so we called ahead to let them know. The hostess responded by saying that they prioritize being on time and that they can't guarantee a table. Ok, a bit harsh, but fine. Fair enough. Our train was late but they've got to keep things moving.

* On arrival, the waiter reminded us that we were 10 minutes late and the restaurant was very busy before briskly walking away. We would've ordered drinks if he'd paused to ask. It was a very unkind reception to the restaurant entirely.

* Since they seemed to be in a big hurry, we got our food orders ready within a minute, and during that time we watched our waiter become extremely upset with an 11-top next to us that couldn't remember who ordered which dish. The waiter slammed a plate of pesto down on an empty table when no one at that table could determine who ordered it. Real weird and stressful energy there

* Here's the worst part: when we finally DID receive our food, it was hot on the outside and cold in the middle. (I ordered the lobster ravioli). Seems like their obsession over turning over tables quickly came at the expense of anything resembling a quality meal

* I immediately asked for the check after the disastrous meal. I communicated the aforementioned issues to the waiter who was then upset that I hadn't told him about them earlier. Well, he never checked in on the table after dropping the cold food, so how could I?

All in all, this is a restaurant of terrible service that doesn't deserve your money. Take it to another Italian restaurant that does. I mentioned Tuscany earlier, and just for comparison: the head chef of Tuscany came up to my table last time and asked how we were doing. That's the opposite of what I saw at Sofi. They couldn't care less about us beyond how quickly we could get in, get out, and pay our bill.

EDIT: Since I can't actually respond to the owner's response, let me append my response here. No, I absolutely did not have an "argument with my pregnant wife." She was crying because she was so upset with how rude you were and how awful the experience was.

Since the time I wrote this review the owner has continued to respond in increasingly petty ways, one of which was notifying OpenTable that we did not show up to our reservation. Now this response below.

We dined here our last night in town and it was delicious. We brought our five year old daughter and she had a side of pasta with red sauce while my husband and I each had a delicious option from the menu, along with an appetizer and glass of wine. We split some sorbet for dessert.

I had the gnocchi. They were pillowy soft and the pesto sauce was delicious. My husband enjoyed his dish, but I don't remember what it was.

We had great service. Our waiter was perfectly attentive and everything was brought out to the table in a timely manner. I'm so sad we live in a different state and can't go back because this would easily become a go-to for.

Man oh man, I really wanted to like this place. Walked by it a million times and the ambiance and the atmosphere were super cute. Finally decided to pull the trigger and make a reservation. Morale of the story don't judge a book by the cover or the reviews here on google or yelp?? The food was edible at best. They are clearly delusional with how they price their food given its clear quality. Paid close to 40$ for seafood pasta with absolutely zero taste and crunchy noodles. And the special close to $60 was a glorified chicken parm. Quality of the food would maybe be acceptable if the price was cut by at least half or being your local neighborhood Italian spot. But for a place that promotes itself as $$$ restaurant, I expected so so so much better than one scallop in my pasta.

Spent $200 for two people, save yourself some dollars in this magnificent city with much better food.

Would also love to note that the response to this review is completely incorrect and inaccurate. We certainly did not finish our meals completely, no manager ever checked in to see how everything was, and tipped your standard amount. Didn’t care that it was a not a scallop pasta. You missed the entire point that the food had very little flavor.

Very disappointing evening. A waiter approached us with menus right away when we sat, but then it took another 20 minutes to get a drink ordered. Then it took forever to get the drinks. The happy hour special on both the menu AND the website does NOT specify Monday-Friday only. That is misleading and we came to this restaurant for that menu. My food was bland and tasteless. We asked for another basket of bread (once we could get someone to stop at our table) and he never brought it). Then we waited another long period of time to get the check. Not sure if this is normal at this restaurant or not, but will not return.

I had the Chicken Emiliana, and while I wasn't a huge fan of the idea of the ham cotto being on it, I'm so glad I took the chance. The entire meal was incredible, and for a person for whom potatoes are usually a "meh, I'll get to those later" experience...the potatoes were superb. The chicken was everything I'd hoped.

My boyfriend & I have been going here for years & decided to go one night just for a nice midweek dinner. I have never had a bad experience at Sofi until this night. The service was absolutely horrendous. We didn’t order wine because it was a Wednesday but we ordered our app & mains separately but they came out together. The server also just felt like he was rushing us. He didn’t even tell us the specials. It was teetering towards dinner rush but that doesn’t mean current customers shouldn’t be given good service. We also made a reservation. It wasn’t super crowded but maybe they were understaffed. Obviously the industry & the city are still reeling from the economic & staffing impacts of COVID but we literally made a conscious effort to support Sofi during COVID, ordering delivery a few times. Regardless, this last time we felt super rushed & it was overall a bad experience. It’s just unfortunate because it was one of our favorite restaurants in the city.

Good food but too small circular table for 2 people. This Restaurant is trying to maximize the no. Of circular tables they can fit in the small lot they got. I could hear the adjacent table's conversation! This restaurant is not worth being called a fine diner.

This place is such a gem. Most of the workers are from Italy and you can taste it in the food. It is such high quality and delicious. A few of my favorites are the Cacio e Pepe, the Branzino, and Lobster bisque.

Went during restaurant week and it was fantastic. My friend had a food allergy and they were very accommodating too.

Not good, very overpriced, rude waitstaff that hit me in the head while serving dishes and didn’t apologize.

Excellent Italian place. The food is great with generous portion. The service is even better. Always here to help, accommodate you. They will remind you of your booking, will suggest plates, be extra flexible (I've been couple times minutes before the kitchen close, but I've never felt rushed or pushed outside).
A true gem.
Printer rows doesn't have many restaurants option, but at least we have Sofi!

It was a NYE date night and there was no shortage of patrons. It appeared to be overwhelming to the manager (owner?), but our server (Alejandro) handled it like a champ. We were never left waiting for any part of our meal and the food was delivered hot, well presented, and delicious! I am in the neighborhood and hadn't stopped by but Alejandro and the kitchen made a forever customer out of me. The fish stew & tiramisu ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Had a reservation for 745. Hostess wouldn’t seat us. We waited for 15 min. Said there would be a 40+ min wait on top of our reservation as she sat other walk ins ahead of us. Do not count on reservations! It’s first come first serve. We had to leave because we weren’t willing to wait an hour for a table for a reservation we had.

Busy Friday nite, Ambiance charming, food very good, especially the desserts.....apple pie delicious with very thinly cut apples, and pastry rolled out thin.....like strudel. Ricotta cheesecake authentic Italian, like how my Mom baked for Easter. Service very slow, but friendly. They were busy, could use more help!

The food was amazing. Even something as simple as Artichokes and cheese - to die for. Everything made from scratch. Would recommend getting a full set, app, entree and dessert. Omg the dessert - get the tiramisu. It's small, I'd recommend reservations. The server could have been a little more personable.

Obviously plenty of empty tables but was told that they couldn’t accommodate us . Felt judged more than anything . I’m not going to use the race card but apparently the maître d had no problem playing it . Life is like a revolving door but it’s OK. We both traveled from NYC , one Vietnam Vet and one hospital professional , disappointed and humiliated . I recommend the Italian Village a few blocks from there where the staff is excellent. The foood is outstanding and they make you feel welcome .

I’m trying to respond anyhow this is my response to the restaurant comment :

Thanks for responding, you took offense as noted, however we felt humiliated and judged. I definitely can tell you this via a phone call or in person but it’s my honest opinion and I have no reasons to lie about how I was made to feel. The words from the maítre d’ were, “we are full and would not have any tables available today”, that is a close ended statement and leaves no room for speculation. We are fine and I’m sure your restaurant will survive however, the situation was unprofessional and, call it whatever you feel, we see it as discriminatory!

A really nice spot for Italian fare, a sort of perfect mix of upscale and down-to-Earth. I enjoyed a delicious meal of braised mussels and the mushroom pasta. The servers were really friendly and attentive too!
