Poor customer service. Waited 10 minutes for balloons that were already ready. Because the cashier was helping a customer but the other two employees couldn't care less that people wait. They should have all employees trained to check people out. Customer service is what brings people back. If an employee see a customer standing there for more than 5 minutes they should step in ahelp there coworker. Just lazy

Paid almost $50 to fill up 6 large balloons with helium, they didn't even last 4 days up in the air and the weight of the balloons outweigted the helium inside,and we woke up with the balloons being on the floor after 3aybe 4 days after they were filled out. I thought this is weird, cuz they didn't lose much in size, but they look like they are filled with regular air.. Now, you know how you can inhale helium and your voice is going to change? Well, guess what happened when I tried inhaling the gas that they filled the balloons that I have from them? Nothing. The balloons have just air in it, with probably a small portion of helium so they can last 1-2 days up in the air, and the rest is just regular air. Proper rip off. This place is a scam. Not worth your time. I don't know how much more can you ask for a single balloon to be filled at around $8 and still don't give people helium so the balloons they get can last a little longer than 1 night???? Same experience as Neil a month ago. Awful customer service by the manager there. I just had a couple balloons I needed but was told no they only will do a scheduled order, they had a lot because of graduations. Which I totally get, but no one was there and I just needed a couple blown up, would have taken less than 5 minutes. They could have even called someone else up to blow the balloons up and they continue with the pre ordered ones. I was given attitude and was told to go to Dollar Tree. I advise to stay away from getting balloons blown up there. I gave two stars because not everyone there has to suck as much as that manager.

I stopped in to pick up an order for my daughter. She runs a school and they needed a few supplies for the holiday. The store nearest my home had the items she needed in stock.

Inside the store, there was a pickup-order shelving unit, with our order along with several others. It was bagged, with the receipt attached in my name.

I stood in front of the order-pickup shelves for about ten minutes. I checked and rechecked the tag on my daughter’s purchase. It was definitely our order and it was ready to go.

There were two or three employees in the store, with only one lady working the cash register, which was right next to the pickup area. She was busy with a customer who walked in after me, filling her immediate request for something or other.

The cashier didn’t look at me. She didn’t say, “I’ll be right with you ma’am,” or even nod in my direction.

There were no instructions on or around the pickup shelf. After waiting for so long, I assumed I was being foolish, standing there and waiting, when I was supposed to simply help myself and check in with the cashier before I left the store.

So. I did exactly that. I wanted to do some additional shopping anyway, so I grabbed my order, placed it in my shopping cart, and said to the cashier, “I’m taking this. I’ll be back up here shortly after I shop.”

She finally nodded in my direction as she continued to help the other customer.

A couple minutes later, I walked up to the cash register to pay for my additional items, and to make sure I collected my daughter’s entire order. I was concerned there might have been more items I couldn’t find or didn’t see.

She immediately grumbled at me, “All of those pickups HAVE to be handed to you by an employee! You can’t just get them yourself!”

I had no idea that was the case. There were no instructions at the pickup area, and all the packages were out in the open, facing the sales floor.

I told her I waited and waited. In the end, I figured I was doing it wrong and no one was supposed to help me with my order. So I took it and told her I was doing so.

She continued to berate me about taking the package on my own. I continued to explain my perspective.

There was no reason another employee couldn’t have stepped in to help me, or at least to explain the rules to me, so I wouldn’t get their procedures wrong.

All in all, it was horrible customer service. She was a rude cashier, and I’m guessing I’m not the only customer who shared my experience.

I truly understand why they’re closing their doors.

Awful customer service.

We pre-ordered 36 balloons 2 days before for a 10 o'clock pick up on Saturday. Nothing was ready and so we waited and waited. We put up the balloons in one big bunch at 11ish a.m. By 7 p.m. we had 7 balloons left (see pict). Very disappointing.

Lots of plastic type party utensils, plates that suits many themes, napkins etc. My brother found candy he loves. They had some Halloween stuff including a HUGH spider that people put on their porch, etc that was gross but all in fun, make one squeal to see. It was around 80.00 so you can imagine it was BIG! But it was fun to see stuff you could use for any dress-up party you might wish to design.

Tammy should be fired or at least reviewed if she’s the right employee here. Horrible customer service, rude attitude. The other gentleman who works there was polite and solved the issue without any problems. But Tammy kept her rude attitude all the time I was there, making wrongful statements. I will never come back to this store if Tammy will be there at the register providing customer service because she’s terrible at it.

This is a terrible party city, the staff doesn't know what their doing and their SUPER RUDE and not helpful. Went in yesterday to get some info on balloons and no assistance at all. The manager was very rude and just was giving short answers.

I work in retail industry and I’ve never seen a worst customer service. I came at 5:50 to get one candle for my baby’s first birthday, as soon as i came in I wasn’t greeted, all i was told from far loudly was “we’re CLOSING in 10 minutes” then I directly asked where can i find something and she answered me from very far that i need to look and if i cant find then they dont have.. she didnt make an effort to come and help me so i dont waste time. After that i asked about candles and she rudely answered where. I should’ve just left but instead i went towards the check out and she just checked me out, not a single nice word. I hope she gets talked to and i hope she gets fired too, people come to this store happy to celebrate something and instead they find this awful service. It was Sunday August 6, there were two associates; the rude one was the blonde.
Please offer customer service courses to your associates party city. Very disappointed

Went in to get 2 balloons today. The lady at the cashier had a lot of attitude said they were busy and couldn’t make two balloons. I brought up it only 2mins and after I stood there for 5min she finally made 1 ballon but wouldn’t make the second one. Only 2 people in line behind me. Just bad customer service, and a bit lazy. She had time to make the balloons. Wouldn’t go back to this location. Have two toddlers at home that love playing with balloons.

This was the worst location we went to.
I went in before 6:00pm to get three balloons for my son’s graduation next day. There were three associates who did not even try to smile at us!! When we asked about the size of the balloons we picked, they barely answered, we had to drag out the answers from them multiple times.
We asked if we can pick up the balloons the next day at 3:00pm they said it’s not possible because their first order start at 4:00pm, we asked if they could do them when we were there since there were only three of them. They said no! All of that without even trying to smile!
I have never seen a retail store with such bad behaviour and attitude. I understand that it is a busy grad season and they might have been fully booked, but that does not excuse their rude behaviour.

The sales associate (middle aged woman) was rude to me when I asked where to find simple birthday candles and then again lacked courtesy when I attempted to have a modest helium balloon request filled as a walk-in. Apparently they don’t do that even though I pre-bought balloons with the intention of getting them filled as a walk-in. Do not go in here and expect to have a few helium balloons filled without an appointment. I’m sure these associates are overworked and underpaid but wow, I haven’t been treated so poorly by retail workers anywhere.

(NO STARS) Today, 08/10/2022 I visited Party City in Downers Grove which is my normal choice because I live close to this location. I've never had an issue here before until this evening. My sister lives in Bolingbrook and came to this location to purchase bridal shower supplies for my bridal shower. We were in the store for about 30-45 minutes. During our visit the current evening manager SANDY, was very unpleasant, unhelpful, and showed no customer service skills whatsoever. The first incident was in the aisle as we were shopping with our children she brushed pass us abruptly as if we were bothering her. The second time was when I was in an aisle alone with my daughter and she asked if I needed help finally. I said yes do you have this product that's listed on the shelf and she said no it's online only. This was odd because there was a space for it on the shelf. The third occurrence with this so called manager was at check out. As we checked out the total was around $155, we gave the cashier Sydney a gift card for purchase that has $300 on it. The cashier did not know how to process a gift card. She called for the manager SANDY. Sandy came up with an irritated disposition and stated your gift card is invalid, as she read the back of the card. We asked if she could try again and she said that she would not, and told us she would put our items on hold and for us to come back in the morning and try again and that if it didn't work they could run a SALES AUDIT. Why would we need a sales audit of a gift card? We asked could she try typing in the numbers on the gift card and she stated she couldn't because it's and invalid gift card. With cranky crying children with us we gave up on the purchase and left. This was the biggest inconvenience for us due to us both working jobs that are 9-5 shifts and can't come to the store in the morning to even "try again" when the solution was to type the numbers in for the gift card since this happened before at another Party City with the same gift card that originally had $500 dollar on it. SANDY shouldn't have chosen to work as a manager because her customer service sucks. SANDY needs to be reprimanded by JOHN or whoever is the current is GM over her.

I run a local business also in the area and frequent this place for our event needs. I don’t know I continue to waste my time. I highly encourage this place to not advertise curbside pickup if you don’t actually do it. I placed an order for curbside and arrived on time for my order. I certainly do not mind going in but had recently broken my foot so curbside was a convenient option for me. I clicked the link as advised in the text and when nobody came out, I called the number on the sign. Somebody answered and then immediately hung up on me when I said I was there for curbside. In an effort to be on time for my event, I hobbled my way inside for my order. I told whoever got my balloons that whoever answered the phone and hung up on me was extremely rude. She apologized on the employees behalf and I left. Had I not had a broken foot, I probably wouldn’t have let this complete disregard get to me. Do better.

Came in for an order pick up and I understand they were busy but as I was asking questions they were giving attitude, which I didn’t appreciate it at all. Both worker and manager that was there when asking questions and not at all rushing them, seemed frustrated of how busy there were and I felt they were taking it on me as a customer. There is a clerk at this store that Always greets me with a smile. Her name is Sandy. As a Party Planner, Im in the store so much that Sandy knows me by name. She has a wonderful sense of humor that would brighten anyone's day. If you need help ask for Sandy. She will go above & beyond to make you feel welcomed & have you coming back over & over for all your party needs. Thank you Sandy for all you do. You're truly a great asset to the Party City stores.. As some of the other reviews have stated some of the clerks, especially the younger generation aren't as social.. they do not smile. I will never understand how you can work in a Party Store and your demeanor not be one of joy. I know times are tough but its a Party Store... But I will say inspite of their demeanor, they are still professional & they do their jobs even if its with a blank look on their faces. I chop it up to being the times we're living in. This is still my fav store.

Staff are super slow, with 10 mins fillin balloons they take 20 mins. Also if you don't check for the price when checking out you might end-up paying more. The staff here don't know anything where the stuff is, even if you ask the same person same thing on the second visit.

Bought 24 balloons for an office party, and paid for 24 hr helium to ensure they would make it through the party. 15 hours later I lost almost half of them, and by the 22 hour mark I lost 21 of the 24. Either they forgot the 24 hr helium or their product is trash.

I needed a place to get a few things for my daughters first birthday and also to get a balloon inflated with helium. I drove to Party City and looked around for some party supplies which they have a ton of. I got a few more balloons and some party favors. The young lady that rang me up and filled my balloons was very nice and explained the balloons might deflate some being in the cold weather and that they would return to normal after they were back indoors and at a warmer temperature which they did and after a week still inflated like I just bought them. Great experience and I will be back.

I don’t know what it is about this location that has issues with balloons. Every time I’ve attempted to place a balloon order—whether it’s been in person or now on the phone (which apparently they can’t do)—has been an issue. The first time I came in to purchase much of my event supplies, they told me there was a helium shortage and that I would have to come in three days before my event date to place the balloon order. Then pick up the balloons. So you would imagine my frustration when I had to come in three separate times for these balloons.

When I tried to place an order for pick up online, they don’t even offer the option to select one balloon so you’re forced to get a pack of 15/32/etc. in one color. Forcing me to call the store. They said they don’t accept phone orders for balloon orders on the phone and id have to come into the store. The woman on the phone asked if this was for pickup for the next day (I admit—my fault for waiting until the last minute) and that if so, they wouldn’t even allow for pickups until 1pm on a Saturday? What? Shouldn’t Party City—a retailer specializing in party goods—anticipate that a majority of their business and balloon pickups occur on Saturdays? Totally absurd.

Like one of the other reviews, I’m sure it’s going to be hard for them to keep up with online retailers. If you’re looking to inflate balloons, you’re probably better off purchasing your own helium tank off Amazon.

Alexis was very helpful in my pursuit of finding a costume accessory. She went above and beyond to make sure that I would get exactly what i requested. Unfortunately, the item was out of stock (in all nearby stores and online) but she was able to tell me when I should check back in to ensure that I received my item as soon as it was restocked and in store.
