What a great record store! I m thrilled it s still around, as this place used to fill me with wonder as a child. After some years away from Chicago, I couldn t be happier to see it still standing strong. As a CD guy, I haven t found any other place with such a wide selection of new CDs, plus an incredible range of records and other media. It has no comparable peer in the area. I ve never left without purchases I love, and I ll be coming here as long as I can. This review sounds like 5 stars, right? It should be. But the staff s behavior can be, well, bizarre. The counter employees aren t exactly personable, which is fine, but the atmosphere is so quiet it feels almost funereal like a funeral for someone nobody liked. I d wondered if it was just me, but apparently, others have felt this too. Even more puzzling is the security guy. At first, I didn t know he worked there and thought he was just a creepy customer, but now I see he s always here, following me like a relentless Michael Myers. I can t flip through CDs without hearing the Jaws theme in my head as he lurks nearby. Despite all that, I love this place, and it s well worth the 4 stars. I ll keep coming here and recommend it to any music fan, despite my misgivings about the staff.

I recently bought a Korn vinyl and upon inspecting it before playing I saw a very noticeable scratch. I played it and of course it skipped about 4 times. I drove back 50 mins to the place to see if anything could be done, but their return policy sucks bc they decide if it s worth the return or refund and even with that scratch and the skips I keep hearing they still told me they can t do anything about it. Point is don t go here unless you want to pay 35+ for a vinyl and NOT be reimbursed for defects on items completely NEW.

I was walking by and decided to get in. As a vinyl collector I was glad and surprised the stock in this store is amazing, you could find anything related to rock and metal but also some world music. Is definitely a place to visit in Chicago. The store visual is a rock experience itself. Definitely I would buy records on this one

Store is great. You can spend some time looking through all the stuff they have. But the staff . . . Wow. Ive never seen a bunch of miserable people who hate their job (or ar least being there). Not one smile or friendly encounter at all. Attending a funeral would have been more appealing. Im not looking to make friends or have a full on conversation, but a little bit of hospitality could go a long way.

Rolling Stones Records needs to find a way to charge somewhat closer to market price for their records. The prices are sadly outrageous, compared to both online and other nearby record stores. Rolling Stones is now a nostalgia destination for old people who liked going there as kids (and buying new records at a normal price back then).

It was originally called Rolling Stone, as in Like A Rolling Stone but people often added the s after the band, so it was changed. When you hear people refer to as Rolling Stone, you know they go back to the 70s. Loved shopping at this store it was a destination where I spent hours, carefully flipping through the albums, choosing which ones I was going to buy that week. They carried everything. I picked up the Illinois Entertainer and the Chicago Reader as they were piled by the door. Fond memories. Still call it Rolling Stone. It s the best!

Absolutely love Rolling Stones Chicago s Superstore! Fantastic place to shop for vinyls, both vintage and new releases plus collector vinyls. Also available are CD s, fun merchandise, movies, a listening station, and more in a great environment. You can spend a-lot of time in here. There were all ages here; saw some 20s, 30s, 40s, and a couple of seniors. This store has been here for a very long time but some of us collectors are going full circle and collecting vinyl s again and rediscovering places again. I personally collect vinyls of artists that I have seen in person in concerts - many of them vintage, and was able to cross 2 of them off my list. I still like to hold the artwork in my hands unlike digital music. In comparison to my other 2 vinyl stores I frequent this would rank 1 in selection not to mention the fun inside. Rolling Stone has the most to offer IMO overall so will return and I took my daughter with me who ended up loving it too. For those that have to drive a bit, right next door is a really authentic good bakery where you can stop in after and buy a pastry to take home as a little bonus.

CD wise, the store is very well stocked with new inventory; I found quite a few CDs that, quite honestly I was unaware even existed. I was a little disappointed to discover they didnt have a used section, but it certainly wasnt the end of the world. That said, I do not appreciate having an employee hover around me the entire time Im looking through the discs as if I was going to walk off after filling my pockets with discs. This isnt even a remote exaggeration, the guy literally did laps throughout the section where I was, stopping and starting and making it quite obvious that he was watching me. And this coming from someone traveling from out of state. Im still an old school tangible media person and make it a point to go out and visit music stores in every city that I visit with work, and Ive been to other music stores in Chicago and Ive never been made to feel like a shoplifter at all, much less to the degree I did here. If I lived locally I can guarantee you I would never return. Not sure what the assumption was or WHY it was, but I certainly hope they dont treat all of their customers this way.... I cant imagine how they wouldve been in business for as long as they have if they did. They get two stars for inventory only.

I m a big collector of vinyl records and Rolling Stones always has a great selection to choose from. The staff is very friendly and helpful. My only complaint is the constant hovering while I m shopping. I don t know if they ve had a major issue with theft in the past, but every time I go into the store to shop the employees are circling like a vulture. I shop Shuga, Rattleback, Reckless, etc. and never had employees following me around the store like this place. They re either acting like they re shopping or circling around. Come on guys, I m the only person in the store and I buy from you weekly. I d give you 5 stars if it weren t for this annoyance every single time I shop in the store.

I wanted to like this place more than I did. We drove here from Chicago because my daughter heard that there were a lot of famous musicians that had visited. The outside of the store looked pretty cool. There were a lot of cardboard cutouts and cool advertising posters of famous musicians. Unfortunately, this kind of cool stuff wasnt part of what was for sale. Inside the store it was mostly cds. (Including the decorations hanging from the ceiling). The record section was a small portion in the back that had a reasonable selection, but not as good as the record store in my small hometown. There are certainly better options in Chicago without the drive. The other thing that was weird was that they had a random shelf with adults only merch right at the front of the store. Why a record store needs a side business in adult videos, is beyond me. They also had a collection of rock and roll mugs that seemed to be leftover from the 90s, and none of them were that spectacular. The one thing that we did like was the tee shirt collection, which was well curated and had some gems. We got a really cool blondie tee shirt that almost made the drive worth it. It was not as cool as I hoped it would be- but maybe worthwhile if you are already in the area.

As a person of color I do not feel welcomed or comfortable shopping here. Upon entering I was ignored by employees at front counter after I said hello to them. There were no employees at the time in the vinyl section however when I made my way towards the back an employee was stalking me. I did not feel comfortable in further looking because I was being targeted. Mind you there s other customers in here at the time and I was being singled out. Stay away from this place if you are a person of color and take your business elsewhere. Edit: No idea why you are referencing a ms arod I m just letting everyone know my experience. Coincidentally the rap section is in the rear where security performs their duty. Like I mentioned how could someone possibly be comfortable shopping with security staring at you.

Decent selection of CDs, not that many vinyls. Almost nothing when it comes to vinyls and older records, its mostly the newer stuff. One star deducted because they screwed up the price on and album I wanted and it was $10 more when I came up to the cash register. The what-I-presume was the manager (young kid with green hair) who looked annoyed that he needed to move to help check the price didnt do anything about it. Gone are the days of making sure the price is correct on tags I guess. Lost a customer, I can easily get my vinyl online or in other stores instead. Not losing too much with the very small selection of metal vinyls anyhow. EDIT: Upped one star since the store came back with an answer. I do like seeing how they care about our experiences in their store. I will certainly give you another chance when on the lookout for new releases. Thank you!

Great place--at long as you dont have to use the toilet! Go to Jimmy Johns across the street, I was directed. I stopped going to Rolling Stones after that. I dont spend my money at any establishment that cannot extend this most basic of human courtesies. I penned a letter to management to see if this was their usual practice, but was ignored. Bye bye! P.S. Has nothing to do with Covid, by the way. This has always been their policy.
