A&W

Restaurant is attached to a gas station. The staff were really friendly and the food came out quick. If you're looking for something quick and easy, I'd recommend it but not great for large groups.

Must say the root beer here was a 10/10, Loved the root beer float. The coney chili dog was also good, probably the best food I ever had at a gas station, employees are also friendly and dedicated to their job

A&W in Dubuque used to be a good spot to grab a tasty burger, but now it's kind of sketchy. The place looks dirty and gross, with floors covered in dirt and sticky stuff. The garbage cans are overflowing and there's no room to throw anything away. I get that it can be tough to keep things clean when it's busy, but when I went there, it was empty and the 5 staff members were just hanging out on their phones. It's not a great look for a restauran

My food took a long time. They were friendly and apologetic but it took forever. I went upstairs to eat -- otherwise you're at a counter in the convenience store. It's nice up there and has a really interesting view. The men's bathroom wasn't clean. All in all a mixed bag!

Inside an older gas station. Always enjoyed A&W. Had to wear here for the nostalgia from the drive in we had in my home town. Great place ruined for no reason. Sad so many closed down. And the gas station was nice. Enjoy seeing older pumps with buttons worn down and card readers that are old enough not to take chip readers

Stopped last early night, and went through the drive thru. Two cars ahead of me, and I sat for over 15 minutes before I got to the window. Spent another 11 minutes at the window before getting my food. Ordered the Big Papa Combo with cheese curds. Almost $15. Burger was thrown together, sloppy and not wrapped tightly. Worst and most over priced fast food I ever had and paid full price for it!

Always dirty and messy looking. Makes it look cheap and seedy inside. I was at the order window for like 5 minutes. No one responded. So I park and go in. The reason no one responded was bc the one and i
only kid was on his precious phone chatting and texting away. Nice, real nice. I WAS going to get 6 meals to go, a galloon of rootbeer and a A&W gift card. So I ask about the gift card. The kid looked at me like I had 2 heads and each was speaking in different tongues and languages. So I ask again. His helpful response-go up 2 the front counter. Apparently he didn't want to be bothered with it. He had more pressing matters 2 attend 2 on his phone.
So I go up to the front. There were like 11 people in line. I finally get up there and inquire about either an A&W gift card or one 4 Oky Doky. The kid screwed up his face and stepped back. U would've thought that I slapped his face or something.
He kinda chuckles and says that they do not even sell gift cards...for either business. I'm thinking, WHO in this day and age doesn't sell GIFT CARDS?? Makes no logical sense whatsoever. So I left and went down and got supper at Wendy's. Piss on A&W. Their food is never that great anyway. I just wanted the gift card 4 my son so he could get a meal sometime and try their new shake flavor. He's been dying 2 try it.

This place is in the back of a pretty run-down gas station. However, you could tell the family that operated this A&W care about the quality of the food they put out. There's something about an A&W coney and rootbeer float that hits differently than food from anywhere else. It's definitely worth a stop if you find yourself in Dubuque.

Used to be great but new owners now and they have raised prices and are not to cool. I ordered a combo meal to go and didn't want the drink because I was on a motor scooter, wanted cheese curds instead of fries. Well they charged me for the full combo even though I didn't get any fries and charged me additionally for the curds Result ? $14+ for a papa burger and curds. I won't be back anymore.

Ordered 2 root beer beverages, cashier could not understand me, as he was from some other country, he sold me root beer floats. I threw mine away, i think root beer floats are gross. I've been here before and they always deliver good food, quickly and efficiently

Food wasn't the best but I've definitel5 had worse at other A&Ws. The upstairs dining was neat, but the gas station atmosphere at the counter was... different. Overall though not bad!

The food and service are amazing but it's located inside a gas station with limited 1st floor seating. Very limited. You can go to a second floor area and eat, but that wasn't meant for dining. I wish they'd build a good old fashioned A&W somewhere in Dubuque. They'd have enough business to keep their doors open, that's almost a guarantee.

Edit: Talked to the manager the next day and she was very sorry and was not okay with what was going on. She made it right. 5:30pm and they have kids running around upstairs which is supposedly closed off, going into the kitchen, sitting and standing on top of the condiment counter and no adult around. Health department would have a great time with this place.

The staff were friendly but the manager was just not very nice and did not have good customer service. The grilled tenders were horrible, and did not look grilled at all. They look boiled if anything. They refused to give a refund

A&Ws can be hit or miss, but this one is great. Food is always tasty and quick. Located inside of a gas station (gas station could use a bit of updating) but there is seating options for dine-in and a drive thru as well. There's an upstairs dining area with additional seating that they open up if it gets busy. This is one of my go-to's for a good quick meal in downtown Dubuque.

A&W prides themselves on their good food, and while you can get that here, do expect a wait (often because of things that have to be fried fresh). While a tad pricier than larger chain options, the quality of the food shows as to why that is. You'll get good food for decent price, just don't expect it instantly.

Usually this restaurant is our favorite. Today we went through drive thru and ordered two papaburgers and two rootbeer floats. We got two papaburgers and two medium rootbeers. We went back through drive thru and explained our order and what we received. We went to pay what we thought was the price difference but she charged us full price for the rootbeer floats. I again explained to her we didn't order the rootbeer so why are we paying for both? I expected to pay for a serving of icecream to put in our rootbeer. We cannot consume two rootbeer floats and two rootbeers and we didn't order that. Admittedly I got rude with her because the cost of four drinks was a bit more than the two we actually ordered. She slammed the window after saying "You got what you paid for." We asked where are rootbeer floats were and she said no, you got what you paid for and I didn't take payment for more. Geeesh all that hassle and rudeness because we wanted two rootbeer floats and two papa burgers? Why? All she had to do was give us two servings of icecream to put in our rootbeer, we would of paid for it and been on our way.

Went to drive thru, no one asked for my order, wait 10 minutes, decided to pull up to the window and they said that will be $9.89? Funny because you never took my order, went and discussed with some gal and she asked me what I wanted, then asked me to pull behind the building and wait for it, Charged me full amount, didn't offer a discount or even we are sorry about that, 4 people in one small area, I will never stop there again, 5 car and trucks went through while I waited another 10 minutes for my order

A&W is just the absolute best fast food, hands down. Their food is exactly what you want, prepared exactly the way you want it. The burgers were hot, juicy, and well-seasoned. The fries were hot and crisp. The cheese curds were especially delicious! Everything was made to order, which is really what you want.

Absolutely gross🤮 they have the worst rootbeer ever. It should go into the world most worst things as number 1. There French fries are so bland its not even funny. Glad, I didn't order anything else. I would never suggest this place ever. 🤮🤮
