The Coop is a community based food store that opened in 2006 in 500 square feet we rented from the Embudo Valley Library. We’ve grown to become an integral part of the Embudo Valley economy, providing over a million dollars worth of food to our over four hundred household members and all of the greater community. We employ over twenty locals and now operate out of our 1100 square foot building bringing a large selection of local and organic produce, grocery goods, local consignment items, and a popular deli that offers a menu of delicious sandwiches and pizzas all made in house.
Really cool place that's bigger on the inside, as they really fill their space with a lot of variety. We had juice, sandwiches, and breakfast burritos. All was great and service was top-level. Plenty of seating outside to enjoy the mountain air. I'll definitely be back when my travels bring me near here again.

We stopped on our way on Rt 75 for a small rest.
Very nice place, brilliant location, forthcoming and nice people running it, they have fresh coffee, ice cream, fresh fruit and much more.
Go-check it out!
See also the artwork on the left wall outside the building. Well done Dixon!

The store is a bit overpriced, but the selection is vast. With so many options, some items raising questions about how long they’ve been sitting there. That said, it’s convenient to have nearby—particularly for those who can afford it. The deli sandwiches are a solid option when you’re in a rush, but the carrot cake falls short, lacking the flavor and sweetness to make it worth the price.
The staff is friendly, and the shop does offer some nice extras like local art, essential oils, and other unique items. However, this store is also a clear reflection of the growing divide in this community. It caters to a wealthier clientele, those who can not only afford inflated prices but seem to prefer an exclusivity that alienates anyone who cannot.
This trend mirrors the larger issue of gentrification, where affluent newcomers move into small communities and cities, buying up land and properties. In doing so, they displace longtime residents and reshape the area to reflect their own tastes and lifestyles, often at the expense of the community’s original character and affordability.

We make this market a destination when we spend the weekend in Taos!!love the drive out there! It has great pastry and sandwiches! Nice quiet place to sit and chill

This place used to have really good pre made breakfast burritos for sale, they were reasonably priced and very convenient for on the go breakfast. The chile, both red and green were very good, sometimes it was even a bit hot " for a local resident, born and raised". But something has drastically changed with the quality of the breakfast burrito from here. For one the potatoes are soggy "from being boiled". And now there are some types of herbs and spices in the burrito. What happened to good ol New Mexico food, in good ol Northern New Mexico ?

I would like to personally reply to Mike Honcho’s post. Everything on his post is not true. Pretty sure it is a fake name and a fake profile. This guy does nothing but complain it seems. I would love for him to personally come tell me this to my face since he seems to know me so well and is able to spend so much time observing me and listening to what I am talking about. Bet that will not happen. I stand by the quality of our food.

This place used to be the best place around. Current management seems to only care about making rich Californians and Texans happy. Sandwiches now over $13. Some are double what they were last year. 9 hour old hot breakfast burritos are $7. Nevermind it’s illegal to keep food hot that long. They’ll sell you a “day old” pastry for a slight discount but check the date and find out it’s really 5 days old after you bite into it and find mold. And they only get bread delivered once a week but they’re certainly happy to charge the same price for a 7 day old loaf which most bakeries would’ve thrown out days before. Feel free to stop in and get ignored by deli staff for ten minutes before they tell you they’re closed or ran out of bread. Sad to lose another good spot I used to bring visiting out of towners to all the time.

five stars for staff, a few stars for the few decent organic vegetables, and one star for the wal mart level of “food” on the shelf. Not much organic selection here.
Plenty of white flour, msg and white sugar, if that is what you are into. Basically this is a 7-11 with really friendly staff.
6 years ago this really was a coop, and I shopped here.
Not the case today.

Wonderful little grocery store, great selection of organic vegetables, nice deli, homemade pizza, and sandwiches.
My only complaint is with the cashier, I think his name is John, he wasn't friendly in the least, actually made us sack our own groceries, seems to have an immense dislike for his job, or was having a really bad day and took it out on us and the customer in front of us, he really shouldn't be working as a cashier, stocking would be ideal for him. He's the reason I didn't give a 5 star rating.

What a gem of a co-op grocery out in rural New Mexico! If you are passing through or staying awhile in the area this little grocery will have all you need, and possibly a little bit more. You can purchase some of the most fresh produce I have had in years, with a healthy selection for a little local store. The variety of locally sourced goods, from frozen bison sausage, to bulk packages of chili, and fresh made corn tortillas, mean you are supporting local farms, ranchers, and producers when you shop here. They also have a great little deli that serves coffee well above the level you would expect in a little market. WOW, just WOW!!!

This is a gem of a place! The heart of an amazing community -- this place has something for everyone. They have a fantastic Deli -- great for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (now with their NEW beautiful front patio!) -- for breakfast, grab a breakfast burrito or pastry and a hot coffee. For lunch or dinner they have a great selection of hot/cold sandwiches, customized pizzas, salads, and other deli foods. Their grocery section is great because they prioritize local producers -- they carry beautiful and fresh local produce, eggs, honey, jams, medicinal herbs, and more . They also have a great selection of grocery items, frozen foods, and a bulk section (saves you a trip to Taos or Santa Fe). I love that they carry a selection of local artists that makes a variety of items that make unique gifts or souvenirs. The managers and staff are wonderful and the deli staff makes delicious food!

The Coop is an integral part of a bigger picture of the agricultural Rio Grande Gorge/Embudo valleys. Folks there " Think Cosmically and act Locally. The Coop goods and sevices reflect that. So does their Ruben sandwich at the deli.
If you look for places that are both " lost in time" , and up to date , Dixon and the Coop beckon you.
