Hortus NYC started with a vision to reinvent how we approach modern Asian cuisine. You’ll quickly see how this dining experience differs from what you typically expect: a welcoming, open kitchen, a design-forward atmosphere and menu, carefully crafted dishes you won’t find elsewhere, and that’s just the start. We’ve blended the cuisines of many countries, including China, Thailand, and Korea, to create a fresh menu that combines these flavors in a unique way. Our specialized approach extends beyond our atmosphere and dishes, too. We highlight delicious tastes while celebrating sustainable and seasonal ingredients. We can’t wait for you to experience Asian flavors in this new-American style.
Most creative dishes. The best restaurant week dinner so far. Price, quality, and service.
The king crab noodle appetizer and the truffle short ribs was my favorite. The noodle creamy spicy (Szechuan) complemented each other perfectly. The short ribs were topped with generous high quality black truffles.
The staff all the way to the busboy was most attentive and courtesy.

Generally good food at a pretty good price point, but uneven execution. Some of the dishes combined interesting flavors, but others were confusing or bland. The abalone was chewy and bland, but the ribs were tender.
The service was good, cheerful, but slow. The ambiance is quite nice, but despite having no grills at the tables, the main eating room is blanketed in so much grill smoke that it shocks you when you walk in.

This was recommended by our hotel for our first night in the city. The experience was exceptional!
We had the 3 course option at a very affordable $63 per person. There was a live jazz band. The menu presented is from their Fall 2024 offering. We had the Tempura Trio to start, then shared both the Korean smoked pasta and Black Garlic Caico e Pepe. Our mains were Short Rib and Steak Frites. We loved everything! 10/10 would highly recommend

Definitely the worst meal i’ve had at a “nicer” restaurant in nyc especially at the price point they have. Came to celebrate my birthday on a thursday at 7:15 pm we got seated after around 5 minutes because there was no host? we looked over the menu pretty quick and wanted to order but the server was no where to be seen for a good 10-15 minutes. (it may not be her fault since it seems that she was the only one working? also confused as to why there is only ONE server for a kind of busy night. but i feel i still have the right to be upset about this whole situation.) we ordered a bunch of different appetizers and entrees. our main entrees took a whole hour to come. (was there only ONE chef in the kitchen too?) food was below average and im never one to complain. some dishes looked nothing like what is pictured on the menu. most entrees were lacking flavor. it just felt like eating bland food. the only good thing was the royal platter.
Unfortunately i had to tip 20% because of the added gratuity but if i could i would’ve tipped 15% :/ service was definitely lacking and seemed to cater to white customers only. Everytime we needed a server it took a good while for them to come.
truffle donabe: i added steak for $10 and it just tasted like eating white rice with meat with no seasoning. didn’t even finish my meal
cod: tasted like steamed fish with no seasoning whatsoever. the weird potatoes in the sauce tasted better than the cod itself.
wagyu sotbap: same as the truffle donabe no flavor expensive for absolutely no reason.
korean smoked pasta: we were expecting a different pasta shape as to what was pictured on the menu but got a completely different pasta type and tasted undercooked. sauce was watery.
steak frites: the best part were the potatoes that came with it.
ribeye: decent but wasn’t anything mind blowing.
In conclusion for a $600 meal this was definitely not worth it at all and everything apparently needed seasoning.

Had their cod risotto, perfectly cooked and seasoned. I love the flavour I can taste the ocean in my mouth!
I actually came here for the truffle beef rice but didnt think it was impressive, truffle taste not intense enough.
The king crab pasta was pretty nice with a surprise mala flavour. Don’t expect decent amount of crab meat though.

Came here for a birthday, and the three of us order the prix fixe course. I ordered the Oyster & Shrimp, Wagyu gui and Ribeye (+12$). My partner ordered Salmon Crudo, Wagyu Gui and Truffle Donabe. My friend ordered Salmon Crudo, Black Garlic pasta and Steak Frites. For 63$ for a 3-course the price was well worth it. My steak was cooked as I asked them to and so was my friend’s steak frites. The Wagyu Gui was melting in my mouth; I also really enjoyed the sauces they gave to me for my oysters, sweet and sour but also tangy. I tried some of the truffle donabe and it was so good, savory and flavorful (I love mushrooms), my partner said it was okay only cause of the rice texture (person preference). They also gave us a matcha tiramisu cake for the birthday boy, the coffee in the tiramisu was overwhelming for me but everyone else seemed to like it!

tried hortus after seeing good reviews on yelp and google. our reservation was at 6:30 pm on a monday night and there was no one there. we got nervous as to whether we had made the right choice in visiting! the space is quite nice and spacious as we were led to a table on the second floor. it did eventually fill up a bit more in our time there.
unfortunately, it seems that almost all of the dishes that we got in our visit at the end of september are no longer on the menu with the exception of the truffle donabe ($33) and sourdough ($5). the truffle donabe was good but not super memorable. not sure i would get it again for the price. i also could have sworn the sourdough was complimentary on our visit, but not sure if i’m remembering this correctly.
i actually thought the cod and pastas that we got were highlights of the meal, but unfortunately, it seems they’ve been swapped out for new seasonal options!

Love the jazz, and service was great. But the food was just OK. We had a steak at our table along with 3 other entrees, and everything came out cold except the steak. The seafood wasn't fresh, nothing I couldn't have done at home. And the dried calamari was overdone, almost like they fried leftovers from earlier in the day.

This was really creative cuisine. They use flavors that are quite unique and mix them together in complementary ways. It was a great mix of ingredients and a nice blend of very healthy and delicious food. (There was clearly some delicious but not so healthy food as well!) Service and atmosphere were great as well. You could get large or small plates and everything was appropriately sized. Would highly recommend.

While this restaurant has so much potential, in nutshell, the food was not good, even below the average. I had a high expectation before coming here as the atmosphere and service were so nice and instagrammable, but it turns out the food was not authentic at all. The sot bot was not warm (supposed to be “hot” in a “sot”) and the rice was dry and hard. The miso soup was too salty and tasted bad. The side dishes were fine. My abalone sot was too salty with seasoning. I don’t remember any taste of the original ingredients, but only the homogenously salty flavor overall.

Ambience is really nice and mellow, I wish I could have sat on the outside patio, but there was a lot of construction happening around it. The service is excellent, the food was really good, even though we were relegated to Bento boxes at lunchtime, and I would highly recommend. Wish I could’ve been there longer so I could try it for dinner

This restaurant consists of rooms which are slightly differently styled. So it seems to have the right atmosphere for many occasions- particularly good for a date or a business meeting. Plus the service is great. The menu is pretty unique and the dishes are prepared beautifully and taste absolutely delicious!

Few customers in the evening maybe because it’s over priced $60 for a small bowl of rice and little beef. Also a little too salty of the mushroom. Under staff by only 1 server running 2 flight upstairs dinning area and also host at front occasionally.
Well…I decided to come back 2 days later to give another try of their lunch menu. Spent over $40 for a lackluster variety and flavorless of side dishes and small portion of uni bowl barely covers the rice under. In the middle of eating, I was asked to change table to the corner because the waitress lied there is a larger group is coming. Huge disappointment and disrespect!

The establishment is beautiful with a very nice atmosphere. Every single food/drink item we had was so delicious and the service was amazing.
The 3 course meal is so good for the price! We tried the salad, seafood, pasta, wagyu, steak, duck, cocktails, and dessert and everything was SO GOOD. The seafood was very fresh and paired well with their sauces, the wagyu was so melty and flavorful, and all the other dishes had unique flavors that were so yummy. I definitely want to go back and try everything else.
Highly, highly recommend!!!

Look I went here a while ago back in Jan (start of this year). I found this place confusing (the dishes). Burrata had no burrata in it [?] other dishes were confusing too. I really wanted to like this place but didn’t really like anything. I would say that the staff is really nice if that helps.
Some ideas for Asian fusion:
Fluffy matcha pancakes with a whipped honey-infused mascarpone and *crushed* walnuts on top
A ‘Sichuan’ burrata - add a ton of sichuan flavors / peppers to a burrata ball
Should be more interesting and very brunch friendly

Have been dying to go and we did...preface by saying that it was a very quiet, mid-summer weeknight in July. They sat us at a four-top in the solarium upstairs. The waitress was excellent, the pre-fix dinner option and drinks, tasty and interesting. The experience, underwhelming most likely because it was pin-drop quiet, so zero energy from what I was hoping and expecting. Probably the night and mid July. I'd try it again.

It was great that they extended the Restaurant week menu since our group couldn't get together for an earlier date. The food was excellent and our table pretty much ordered every combo. Everything was fresh and delicious and we were so full walking out. Shoutout to the server who notice that we have a pescatarian in the group, and proactively switched the amuse-bouche for the person since it was meat base. Will highly recommend and come for other special occasions.

I've dined at Hortus twice during restaurant week and both experiences were amazing. Each time I left the restaurant feeling satisfied and stuffed. The dishes they offered for $60 per person was so worth it. I love that each dish was different and had their own little twists. Everything was perfectly seasoned and tasted so delicious. A few dishes that are worth highlighting are the King Crab Noodles, Yuzu Rose Bacon Pasta, Fluke, Hamachi, Short Rib, and Cod w/ Lobster Risotto. Bonus: You get a free side when you check in on Yelp! The staff was attentive and the vibes were great. Hortus is may be on the pricier side if it weren't for restaurant week, but it is definitely worth a visit.

Shockingly bland.
The presentation was the real draw. The atmosphere is wonderful. The service is stellar.
The pot was not scorching the rice and the cod was lightly seasoned on the top. The light citrus flavor was tasty and I wish there was more.
The side dishes were laughably small and forgettable. No refills. Did not like the salad.
If you like very bland food and are not looking for any zesty Korean flavors, come here.
I can't judge other dishes but the cod sotbap was a disappointment. Go to any other Korean restaurant in the area.

Had the uni ikura, uni was hard. Not fresh, weird texture. Service was very slow. Prep time for a simple bowl took longer than a dish of pasta to come out. Considering the set is 80% cold dishes, which I presume is already pre made. Other than this the beef was pretty good, should’ve gotten that instead but definitely my first and last time for the lunch set.

The food was the most mid experience I’ve ever had. I found myself instantly regretting the hassle of a trip to get into the city for this place. The only decent thing I had was the cod and lobster risotto. But still not worth the paycheck. Also do not get the mango bread pudding, you will regret it. Save your money and go to a better place in the city.

I actually was so obsessed with this place upon looking at their menu. All of their sotbaps looked AMAZING. And they were so reasonably priced for the quality and quantity! I got their uni and ikura sotbap which was SO GOOD. Portions were great, price was good ($34 for quite a good amount of uni and ikura!), and I loved all the components of it. One of my friends food was brought out incorrectly, but they comped his coffee instead without him asking which I thought was a nice touch. Ambience of the place was great too - so glad the music wasn’t blasting lol.

I’m bummed to write this because I was very excited to come. The food was room temperature and without flavor except for some spicy notes. I am unsure about the star I heard it has because this food’s texture and flavor was almost non existent. I brought my son here as a special treat and I paid so so much money for something that was worse than the chin fil a we live near. I saw other reviews mentioning the lack of flavor and I wish I listened. I hope they can find their way back to whatever got them their star in the first place.

The place seems like it had SO much potential and unfortunately it did not live it that. The food was mediocre at best. So much flavor lacking and portion sizes seemed small. We did the tasting, which was well priced but lacking in structure. The royal platter seafood was not fresh. We got the Donabe and it came with off white rice and lacked veggies. The matcha tiramisu was too sweet. The waitress we had wear really nice though. I wouldn’t come back though.

The back patio is a must! One of those beautiful oasis spots in NYC that helps you get away from the every day crazy. Oh yeah, and the food ... Did the tasting menu, with the cod and wagyu beef. Oysters were excellent up front, and there is something about their seafood sauce that was extra special.
Solid wine selection, although the server seemed a bit awkward in terms of listening to us and presenting a bottled wine offering that would go with both of our meals. Friendly enough, but just not dialed in. Plus, the only time anyone came back to refill our glasses (happy to do it ourselves, but something you notice at a nicer place) was when the bottle was empty.
Overall we were quite happy with the experience, with "plus" food and ambience, with room to improve in terms of waitstaff engagement.

I think the food concept is good but the execution and the taste was lacking.
We got the dinner prix fixe with 2 courses as a group.
- rosé penne was mediocre, the pasta was cooked well but the sauce lacked flavor
- king crab noodles barely had any crab and also lacked flavor
- the crispy rice was probably the best appetizer on the table, the wasabi puree (?) at the bottom really made the dish stand out
- truffle donabe with short rib was mediocre, truffle was good but the rest of the dish lacked flavor
- cod risotto had good cod but very mediocre risotto
- uni bowl just lacked content and taste
Also got the brussel sprouts on the side which was decent.
Atmosphere and staff were nice, but the food was overall disappointing.

Les photos du site internet ne reflètent pas la réalité du lieu. Un restaurant vétuste, une partie du plafond a l’étage est camouflé par du papier d’emballage cadeau ? Published 2 years ago
We arrived at 12:55 pm with high hopes for brunch, relying on the brunch menu advertised online. Regrettably, we were informed upon arrival that the brunch service had been discontinued for some time. Following our seating, we observed an irregularity in the service as the waitress attended to subsequent arrivals before addressing our table.
Subsequently, our food order was placed, and we monitored the time it took to receive our meals, which amounted to 42 minutes—a delay we noted due to the subpar service experience. Fortunately, the quality of the food met our expectations, averting a potential dissatisfaction.
In summary, the service fell significantly short of expectations, while the food, though satisfactory, did not excel. The ambiance, likewise, failed to leave a lasting impression. Considering these factors, it is unlikely that we will revisit this establishment in the foreseeable future.
PS: Not kid friendly. Their menu is very limited.

Came here recently for brunch Saturday—we got a table upstairs. Tried the “5 Plates Table to Share”—overall, it was just okay. The Burrata & Beets and Fruit Salad were nothing special and the Mochi Pancake was my least favorite, super dry and the butter/jam was not enough to help that. The King Crab Noodle and Yuzu Bacon Rose Pasta were both pretty good and tasty! We also got the small HORTUS Royal Platter—just your basic raw (or chilled) seafood.
For drinks, the Bottomless Cocktail for $25 is a good option if you like light alcohol, sugary/sweet drinks—and the drink options are limited to 3 specific drinks. Not worth it if you like stronger, less sweet drinks, like myself. Overall, the meal was okay but I don’t think I would come back.

Hortus has been on my list for a while, and I am very glad I finally had an opportunity to eat here. Really nice, high-end feel to the restaurant, with very posh decor. We were seated upstairs and seems like most people are seated there first, as we went for a slightly early dinner at 6:30pm. We tried the tasting menu, and for only $70, it was very worth it, based on the quality of food you get. You start with the Royal seafood platter, with two oysters, Hamachi crufo, shrimp cocktail (4 pieces), and lobster. For apps, we chose the king crab noodles (so good!) and the fluke. Both were great and had a nice spice to it. For the mains, we had the truffle donabe (no short rib add on) which was a creamy mushroom rice dish, and the cod with lobster risotto, and both were yummy. For dessert, we had the mango bread pudding, which tasted like cheesecake to me, as it had mango yogurt sauce, and the matcha tiramisu with vanilla ice cream, and was a perfect way to finish the wonderful meal. I would def come back again, highly recommended!

Spontaneously walked in as seeing the high review. This restaurant participated in the restaurant week before and we still can see the menu from table QR code. However staff said we just missed it, not available anymore. Looks like the restaurant week menu are much the same.
We choose the $50 for appetizer and main each person.
Staffs are friendly. Vibes are good.
Feel it’s a bit too pricy for the food taste. The duck was too oily and too sweet for me. The urchin rice was less juicy than expected. Appetizers we chose octopus and beef Tartarte. They were yummy except that the source/veggies looks like were for color only, not for food combination. I feel it’s a bit over priced for the food taste….

Wonderful experience! Our evening didn’t start well as our booked special Valentine’s dinner was sold out. However, Bianca and the manager turned it around in a really positive direction. The Korean fusion food was amazing, starting with an amuse-bouche, a small platter with lobster, appetizers of fluke and hamachi, mains of cod with yummy lobster risotto, and amazing short rib – all incredibly tasty. We ended with a dessert of lava cake and a delightful drink. The service was exceptional, despite it being an extremely busy night with a 25-person group. Our section, mostly filled with nice, civilized eaters on a highest floor, was very quiet and had comfortable seating. We will definitely be back and highly recommend it.

Walked into Hortus today hoping to share a meal after a day of shopping. Upon arrival the server asked if we had a reservation in a noticeably empty restaurant.
We’re seated in the far corner. We were not apprised of the lack of availability of a menu even though it clearly was still being advertised as being available from Feb 14-Feb 18th . The server had a terrible mouth and body odor. The customer service was not existent. We ended up leaving to save our selves of body odor/bad breath that would have made us nauseous before the meal.

Nice vibe and we had very high expectations going in. We took the Valentine’s Day menu, after ordering everything (10min). The dish wagyu that was supposed to be was apparently not available. Unprofessional to say after ordering. Found a good solution of taking it of the bill at least.
Food came in, and it was very underwhelming. Apppetizer was one bite, main course we ordered the truffle donabe with short rib. Barely any mushrooms, rice was super mushy and the short rib was so Chewy you had to swallow it whole. I never give reviews but this was just so underwhelming, I am sorry hortus but we will not come back.

I cannot explain how amazing this place is!!! They have a cute bar when you enter, and then the dining area upstairs is gorgeous with the perfect coming off music playing! They also have an outdoor terrace that is enclosed for the winter!
Then of course the food the spicy tuna with crispy rice might be my favorite thing however the short rib with the truffle was divine, the surf and turf just as divine, the wagu carpaccio also divine.. honestly I could continue but just know everything there is going to be fantastic!!
The staff is also super friendly which rounds it out to my favorite Asian fusion restaurant in Manhattan!!

I kinda understand why it’s a Michelin recommended place, but I won’t say a must. Tasty overall but something can be improved. One visit is fine if you are around the area.
The air inside restaurant was humid and sticky, the smell of oil and food was around. It was uncomfortable for me as I’m sensitive to smells.
We came for restaurant week, everything was on regular menu which was fair!
For appetizers, I recommend 🦀king crab noodles and 🐟Hamachi.
- 🐟Hamachi was bounteous, an outstanding dish layered several ingredients to bring the taste of the fish out. This was the one hit the Michelin standard for me tonight.
- 🦀The taste of the crab noodles was balanced, and noodles were chewy.
- Yuzu bacon pasta was interesting. Pasta was good, also cooked nicely. But the taste was strong, some bites were too salty and sometimes it was too sour.
For main dishes, delicious but nothing special or impressive..! It surprised me tbh.. since I was really excited.
- To pick the best one, I’ll say urchin rice. It’s a rich seafood dish but not necessary about the truffle on the top.
- Truffle donabe was plain. Mushroom tastes were too strong, nothing remain.
- And for the short rib, small portion with only 2 slice of meat. Slightly dry. Taste was mild which was kinda flavorless.
Last, desserts, fair. Three of us preferred one of each which was funny.
- Mango bread pudding was my pick overall. The crunchy texture was a highlight. But really small slice. (Wondering if this was a “restaurant week” thing, serving smaller portions.)
- Yuzu panna cotta.. couldn’t taste the yuzu at all. Raspberry sauce was just tooooo strong. It might be better just take it out or switch to yuzu jam/ glaze.
- Matcha tiramisu, fair. Smooth mousse but slightly dried cake slices in the middle.

Went here for NYC restaurant week. Huge plus was that they offer that menu on Saturdays which is not always an option on weekends.
Food was really good, I got the short rib truffle donabe, very flavorful and well seasoned. Drinks were interesting but weren’t really a hit with me.

Wow. This is a hidden gem in NYC. Have tried many restaurants in the city, from Michelin Starred to hole in the wall. Not only is the decor adorable here (outdoor patio decorated like a secret garden!) but the food is fantastic. The flavors are unique- it’s mostly American surf/turf type of food with a trendy Asian flavor. I don’t usually write reviews but this place stood out! Very reasonable prices too for this level of food. Will be back.

We were excited to try this Korean Asian fusion restaurant for lunch, because the menu looks awesome! But after we sat down, we learnt that you cannot order dinner dishes during lunch time, luckily there's a NYC Restaurant Week special menu that we can order from. We got the Fluke and the Short Rib Turffle Donabe.
FLUKE: It's a freshing appetizer but the acidity from the ponzu sauce is too overpowering, and they should definitely pull it back a bit for a more balanced dish.
THE SHORT RIB TRUFFLE DONABE: The mushroom is well done; there's an okay amount of truffle but it should be shaved vs sliced if the instruction is to really mix everything in; the Short Rib is actually too stringy and bit bland.
THE SERVICE: The waitress lady is quite attentive but the way that she handled the bill with the credit card reader is bit pushy in the sense that you have to select the tip while she is holding the reader, you cannot take it off of her hand and take a look, and the tip selection starts at 25%.

Every dish we ordered was absolutely stunning. My tongue was dancing with how good the food was.
We ordered:
- yuzu bacon rose pasta (cooked perfectly al dente)
- cod (buttery lobster riostto with the softest melt in your mouth cod)
- ribeye (perfectly cooked steak with much needed veggies)
- truffle donabe added short rib (so much mushroom flavor, i love)
I will definitely be back!!

Finding a peaceful and cozy spot in K-town can be a challenge, but this restaurant is a delightful exception. The crispy rice stands out with its balanced and rich flavor, while the shrimp ceviche, though a bit too acidic for my taste, carries an authentic Korean flavor. The truffle donabe is a highlight, offering the original tastes of beef and truffle without overwhelming seasoning. The sea urchin rice is somewhat ordinary. Overall, I really enjoy this place!

Highly Recommended!!! I love this place.
I went to Hortus with my husband and 3 years old son and had a great time! We had been here 3 times and we ordered truffle donabe which is my favorite, king crab noodles, steaks, yuzu bacon pasta, crispy rice and desserts. All of them was just so good. I want to take my mom here I think she will love it too. Staffs were super nice and my son loved the Ice cream ♥️ I highly recommend this place!

Honestly, the food really was not that good. I don’t recommend the chicken breast with curry entree at all. The fluke was only okay, the short rib with tempura on the side was the best thing I had, but even that wasn’t worth $40.
Only nice thing was the service, and we got a nice complimentary dessert for our anniversary dinner.

The food is delicious, but I feel the service is average. My female server only took my order and handled the bill. I hope there can be an improvement in service quality.

Sad to say that we were disappointed by hortus. Had a reservation at 9.15pm for dinner - received a text reminder informing us of need to be prompt in our arrival and ordering as it was the last booking slot. We were again reminded of this by the host on arrival. All of this is fine and understandable, however we felt extremely rushed bordering on uncomfortably unwelcome the whole time.
- no time allowed to read menu before being asked for food order despite fiddly and unintuitive online menu format
- food arrived considerably before drinks
- had to order dessert, if we wanted it, before we had even finished our appetisers! Isn’t it possible for kitchen to stay open for dessert for existing customers? I know this is the case at other venues
- worst of all, the mains arrived before we had even finished the appetisers or had had our plates cleared away! So there was no room for the food on the table and the server looked very confused when we asked if it were possible for us to have the food sent back until we had finished appetisers and had our plates cleared. They eventually did this but did not seem to understand our frustration.
Overall disappointed by service. The food was yummy, although the fluke was extremely acidic and the vegetables with the short rib were a bit bland, so on the whole it did not compensate for poor service. I do completely sympathise with the desire of servers to keep the late seatings short, but if it is at such significant detriment to the customer experience, then you simply shouldn’t accept bookings that late!

Nice Asian Fusion restaurant in NoMad. This is a great place for Thanksgiving lunch or dinner if you'd like something a bit non-traditional.
We ordered their Thanksgiving special menu, which builds off from their regular menu dishes. It comes with a seafood platter having chilled lobster, tuna tataki and shrimp cocktail, truffle ribeye-cap with portabello mushrooms, and a thanksgiving dessert.
For appetizer, the grilled eggplant and hortus salad were quite good. The salad comes with fried calamari, which is why we order it.
For mains, the ribeye steak was great. It came in a large serving with a small side of salad and sweet potato. The truffle donabe was also very tasty, especially with short rib as an addon.
The place has two floors and the ambience is quite nice.

Food is okay. The service is terrible we came for brunch and for the moment we walk in the server seem annoyed just for us to be there she didn't show us to our table instead she just give us directions on how to get there and we have to figure out. Once we got to the table we try to order our drink and start the brunch dink option for two hours. She took almost 20 min to actually come to the table once we order our drinks we waited an extra 15 min to get them some us were done with our first round of drink and the server in a rude way just told us that "at the moment they were not doing that and that everyone in the table need it to finish their drinks if the people that were already done wanted to order a drink" which was not advertised in their page that it was rules.Once everyone finish their drink it took an extra 15 min to get the servers attention once we finally were allowed to get a second round the server took an extra 20 min to get our drink we have to ask the food runner and he was the only nice one that actually help us. Overall terrible service do not recommend.

Too good for a bar food. Amazing for a quick bite. And wonderful for a wine night. They have some really balanced fusion dishes, paired extremely well with most wines on their list. Chef is innovative and respectful of the dishes’ Korean origin but very versatile in matching seasonal materials.

Highly recommend for brunch. $55 for prix fixe and all you can drink is just a great deal. The food throughout was elevated and made good on the promise of brunch food with an Asian twist that is a risky promise. Interior was kind of a weird vibe especially entering and wish they had bigger tables but will definitely be back here. The mochi pancakes with kimchi jam and the poached egg were particular stand outs. Had 5 cocktails for $25.

The food was tasty.
However the menus are not kids-friendly (mostly spicy) and they did not sell juice. It is more like a place for adults.
and for team Hortus, I am not Mr.

For starters, I had a half dozen Kumamoto oysters.
I ordered the Two Course Prix Fixe
For the appetizer, I had the crispy rice with spicy tuna, quinoa, sriracha truffles.
For the main course, I had the cod with lobster risotto, gochujang crust, charred spring onion.
Excellent!

Super chic modern Asian Fusion but be aware, walked two (short) flights up to dine. That was a little off putting especially with bags but once you reach the dining area, you're welcomed with warm and cozy lighting, plush seating and chic decor. Bathrooms hidden behind two ultra long curtains. Food was excellent - every dish was delicious on their three course tasting menu. I recommend the Hamachi and the Truffle Donabe with the short rib supplement. So rich and tasty this dish, savory indeed. For a second entree idea, the Cod with lobster Risotto was very good but a bit heavy. If you don't mind, it'll fill you up for sure. Dessert choices were okay but you're not here for that.

Came by to try their restaurant week lunch at 2 but the staff said they weren't open. The sign on the door says their kitchen closes at 2:30. Well then they should change the sign on their door to reflect that and lock the door so I would've went somewhere else to eat earlier. Too bad I was really excited to try this place

Went during restaurant week ($60 dinner/person).
The food was a lovely surprise. We were given an extra along with our appetizers--it was a tiny ice cream cone with some kind of seafood mayo salad topped with fish eggs. It was extremely delicious.
Serving size was decent for a course meal, and the food was nicely presented. Service was caring and not too slow with refills on water or coming back with food. The employees are not always present on the second floor, but regularly come in so it is fine.
Overall, the food was delicious and the service was good. Definitely try coming here.
Recommendations:
Crispy rice - savory and easy to share
Yuzu Bacon Rose Pasta - on the sweeter end, but tasted amazing
King Crab Noodle - well-spiced and a favorite!
Yuzu Panna Cotta - tart and refreshing
Critiques:
- Matcha tiramisu's ladyfingers were oversoaked
- Hortus salad had bitter accents which was not that appreciated
- "Cod" dish was heavy. Would have rather had the risotto and cod separately, and would have also liked it more brightened (such as with acidity)
- More on the cod: those who are texture-sensitive to mushy food will not fare well with it
- Everyone felt that the appetizers were better/more worth the money than the mains
- Lighting upstairs should be improved for when it gets dark outside (took 1 star off of atmosphere for how dim it got)

I would rate zero star if I can. Particularly service: the worst I have seen so far in my entire life.
Food: outrageously overpriced food. Ordered cod and ended up with snack size portion with abundance of rice. My wife ordered sea urchin needed up with just 4 pieces of small urchin costs 40+.
The quality of the food was really just about average and does not feel authentic. I have been in many other asian restaurants in North America and this place does not stand out at all.
Service: an absolute nightmare. We arrived at the restaurant about 5:35 which was 5min past their posted opening time. We stood in the waiting area with our 3 years old, for 10min. A number of their staff passing by as if we were invisible. And there was no customer at the restaurant yet, we were there first!
My wife had to chase down a lady eventually and asked whether we can be seated. The reply was no because they were not opened yet!
We finally got seated and finished our dinner. I only saw our waitress twice for the entire duration of the meal: only when we ordered food and paid the bill. She cleaned up the table with total silence- did not care how was the food or did we need desert or anything.
We picked this place primarily due to high google review score but I am now completely lost on why this place can be rated so high. Would not come back again and won’t recommend it to anyone. Loads of better places for Asian food in NYC and in that neighbourhood.
I also want to urge my fellow citizens to treat our reviews seriously. It is a novel civil responsibility we take to provide honest and reflective account of our experience so people can make the right decision based on the information we provide. A high score on places like this one is truly disgraceful and deceitful to our fellow New Yorkers and friends all over the world.

Every person I interacted with at this place was a class act and I hope management doesn’t change a thing. The restaurant deserves every success. Huge hug to everyone. Thanks again for giving me a night to remember.

The worst service I’ve had in a very long time. Dining alone and not busy and 45min until someone took pity on me to take my order. Then the food was wrong. I was ignored pretty much the entire time trying desperately to get any service. The food was nothing special at all. Superfluous garnish and spice on everything permeating so you can’t even taste the fish or food. Shells in crabs. Vegetables that had the potent to be good just were not cooked so onions were raw vs caramelized and roasted. Lack of vegetables as well. The textures were all soft like eating hospital food with spice presented well. Presentation of the dishes were good but the food just not. One note for soft mushy texture and taste of just spice. It suffers from lack of identity, fusion with no sense of direction. The drinks want to be classic but all have odd not working twists as does the food. Extremely disappointing especially the rude staff. Loud, acoustics are awful and it is very very hot and loud. Stick out the wait and eat at Scarpetta down the street.
