Overall food was good. Black ink paella was served warm. Not piping hot like I’m used to at other restaurants with the offering.

Appetizers and my old fashioned cocktail were on point. Wife’s lychee martini was not impressive.

Decor was nice, but not elegant for the prices charged. Overall a 4/5

We reserved the dining room, arrived right on time, but the hosts lied straight to our face that the lounge table they sat us at is ‘part of the dining room’. And then later when we showed them we booked ‘dining room’ on resy, the female host decided to tell us they didn’t see it on their end. No apology given but a lot of attitude.

Tasty food, an excellent selection of tapas, and very friendly and attentive service.
The pancetta was a nice surprise, as even though it is a simple appetizer, it is not easy to find. The octopus was my favorite, as the mix of flavors was interesting and a great opening for the paella.

We made a reservation at Casa Dani in New York for our trip on December 11 almost two months in advance. Last night, out of nowhere, the restaurant canceled the reservation without even the courtesy of a phone call or text. This level of disregard for customers is incredibly disappointing. If they can’t respect their guests’ time and plans, what can you really expect from the food or overall experience? Definitely not the level of professionalism you’d expect from a restaurant of this caliber. Avoid if you value reliability and good service.

Disappointment at Casa Dani - NY

I booked a table at Casa Dani for a special evening with my friend Rafael, a Madrileño living in New York, during my visit from Miami. I was hoping for a memorable experience, given my excellent past visit to Dani Brasserie at the Four Seasons in Madrid.

Unfortunately, the dinner was a complete fiasco. The pork rib paella arrived in an unacceptable state—burnt in places, undercooked in others, and lacking any real flavor. The first red flag came with the ham croquettes, which were served cold. To make matters worse, they tried to take away our tapas three times before we were finished, and there was no host to greet us upon arrival, adding to the disorganization. The service was not only slow but also clumsy and unprofessional.

This is the first time I’ve felt compelled to leave a negative review on OpenTable. What should have been an unforgettable evening was completely ruined, becoming a frustrating waste of time. Deeply disappointing for a restaurant of this stature.

Won't recommend, you'll have a better dining experience anywhere else in manhattan.
Food was okay, however, the horrible experience we received at the bar seating area was unforgettable. First of all, the bartender was not familiar with the menu and was unable to answer any simple questions on availability of menu items. During the meal, the floor manager kept asking the bartender to run chores for him and ignored our signal to order drinks multiple times. We were the only 2 customers at the bar and he just blandly ignored us. When we finally got his attention, he simply said he wasn't aware we were trying to order. When we expressed our frustration, the male host kept finding excuses and acted unapologetically. In some way; I think he tried to intimidate me with his taller figure by leaning really closely during arguments.

Worst service ever had for dinner date. Worst experience. I believe new employee (I think Mexican girl) at the bar. she was fine in the beginning. But later she had no patience and had the audacity to throw away our wine bottle and our remaining food in a garbage. I nearly had myself swing.
I told her I need to talk to the manager and she care less. She said go ahead she didn’t care about it. We were paying for it.
Not that we were getting their free service. The manager and the owner was around too. I don’t know if they actually took action as they said.
just the worst experience.
They need experienced and professional customer service.
I DON’T RECOMMEND IT AT ALL.

Desserts are, of course, the ones you see in tavernas and cafes all over Spain: flan, rice pudding, torrijas with berries. Most are comforting pillows of sugar and milk. The exception is the cheesecake, almost as salty as it is sweet, even before a wedge of Zamorano or another aged Spanish cheese is grated over the plate. Those of us who have trouble deciding between dessert and a cheese course can now have both at the same time.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Casa Dani, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was elegant and inviting, perfect for a fine dining experience. Every dish I tried was a culinary masterpiece, beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and made the entire evening feel amazing, especially thanks to the manager Edward. From the appetizers to the desserts, everything was simply delicious. I highly recommend Casa Dani for anyone looking to enjoy top-tier cuisine and impeccable service. I can’t wait to return!"

We just had tapas and desert, they were all amazing!
You must order the croquetas, they are so creamy and delicious!
The flute crudo is also a must, it’s an amazing mix of flavors and textures; crunch, smoth, sweet and sour it a pinch of spicy! Really amazing!
And the oxtail brioche is out of this world!!
We had the cheesecake, which is more close to a tarta basca and they shred the cheese you choose on top! And the spanish flan was soooo smoth!
Everythind was perfect, the atmosphere was great and the brazilian playlist made the difference.

The best example in NYC of the heavily underrated Spanish cuisine. While they specialize on paella, I really recommend skipping over this. Instead, get a couple of small plates (one must be Tuna-based, recommending the porterhouse carpaccio), either the fish or the steak, and cap it off with either the Basque cheesecake (a wild surprise) or the flan (best flan I have ever tried, the consistency is supreme). If you share and tone down the drinks, this is not an expensive place.

My goodness, the reviews on here seem so unfair, but each to their own. I think this is the best Spanish food I ever had outside Spain. Also the decor was very nice. Everything we had was so well made, with the best ingredients. If you are on the fence give it a go, as it’s really genuine Spanish food. Being given the bill without asking for it and not offered a dessert was a shame, but seeing as it was empty, I get it. Go soon!

Let me start off with how impressed I was with the bartender - Lee. I don’t drink alcohol and he was literally mesmerizing to watch crank out drinks. The precision and excellence behind his every move - freaking awesome!! Please make nice to him, he’s a keeper!!!

Restaurant Service - this was a little tough. We were a large table so I know that can be cumbersome. But it was a Wednesday night and we booked in advance and the service was slow to non existent during our seating. Compounding the frustration, we were hosting a business partner and it just didn’t leave a good impression.

Food - I thought the food was lovely. Some missteps with the vegetarian paella but again we had three paellas (squid, seafood and vegetarian) and two branzinos on order. The apps were delicious- Spanish Embutido Board, Croquetas de Jamón Ibérico, Tomate Tartare, Spanish Omelette, Broccolini, Patatas Bravas, and Caesar Salad.

Dessert - the flan and cheesecake were divine!!

And did I mention the awesome bartender- Lee??

This is not a true Spanish Mediterranean restaurant but an experiment of food. The dishes are nicely presented but tasteless. The tapas are less than poor quality. The tapas in any Madrid market or any corner are much more real and better than those tapas in this sad place. The prices are way too high and it just justify the location and the expenses the owner might have had in decorating the room. However, the artworks are just wall art from Temu or Amazon. Bad taste for a New York restaurant. Service is somewhat chaotic with a few waiters exceptions. The main courses were not that better than any food truck or diner in the middle of Ohio. Deserts were good. It looks like they have an expert pastry chef but with a few options. Very loud place. Not worthy the time or any reservation. It should close very soon.

Food could be much nicer in this place. I think I figured out the problem. The chef uses the main flavor in the dishes in a very skimpy manner. I will give you an example. Pan con Tomate is supposed to come with fatty tuna on each piece and it does. However, the tuna belly is cut in a razor thin style and you get absolutely no taste out of it. You go to any sushi restaurant in the city and they will give you a decent size tuna for your order and I understand that this is not a sushi restaurant but you are serving a dish with fish in it and the customer needs to taste the tuna belly.

The other problem that I noticed is with paella. It comes with an excellent presentation in a very large flat pan and it really looks very nice. However, the clientele in this country is used to eating paella that comes with lots of ingredients. I don’t think the $98 squid ink paella is good value because it comes with very little octopus and it’s very bland.

Dear Chef, you are dancing on slippery slope, and you may lose this restaurant if you don’t fix the dishes immediately. This city is very unforgiving towards chefs that want to experiment with the customers.

We came to Casa Dani last night and really enjoyed ourselves! The Oxtail & octopus were fantastic! I also really enjoyed the wine selection! The ambiance is gorgeous and has a romantic vibe! The only reason I’m giving 4 stars and not 5 is because of the calamari (it was mediocre) and the ribeye was good but not worth $115.

We would definitely come back to try more though!

We came to Casa Dani for Valentine’s Day and the gorgeous interior design. The interior design is as beautiful as pictures. However, the service and food were very disappointing. We arrived on time at 7:30pm, finally someone ordered the food for us around 8:30pm, got the first course at 9:00pm, and the main course around 10:30pm.

—————

Here’s the ridiculous experience:

We walked in on the at 7:30 pm.

8:00 pm - Got the table

We had been told to wait at bar for the table preparation, and finally got a table which is just behind us.
It was empty before we came in, so they spent 30 mins to place the dishes for us to sit in.
And then we waited for another 30 mins for a server ordering food for us.

9:00 pm - The first course

Like no one was serving us, we asked multiple people and multiple times for the menus and the first course, including two managers.
And, someone brought us the second courses. We told him that we didn’t have the first course yet. He took back the course and we waited for another 30 minutes for the real first course.

10:00 pm - The third course + The second course

Again, we asked for the second course around 9:30pm to multiple people.
9:50pm, someone brought us the third course. We learned the lesson last time, so we kept it. 10:00pm, we got the second course.

10:30 - The main course

——————-

Food is obviously not good.
I’ve been to Spanish and the food was fresh and amazing there which doesn’t need much sauces and cook. They celebrate the beauty of the original ingredients.
However, most of the dishes are very salty in Casa Dani.
We expected the main course the most. We ordered 16 oz Dry Age Ribeye in MEDIUM RARE. Unfortunately, it came in MEDIUM WELL to WELL DONE.

The price of the Valentin’s Day Set is $220 + $25(Ribeye).

Totally not worth it.

I’ve pretty much been to everyone of Dani’s restaurants in Spain and my experience made no justice to his reputation. The waiting personnel and food were amazing, and I want to be clear on that before my review.

I went here with my gf to celebrate Valentines day, for which they had a prefixed menu. They only told me about this the day before when they called to confirm, and apparently it was a last minute decision by management, as personnel looked very confused. The thing was that they totally oversold the restaurant for the occasion, thinking that a fixed menu would help them serve more tables ($$$$), and that caused chaos in the whole restaurant: dishes took a long time to arrive, they brought the wrong thing several times, dishes arrived cold, etc.

The price for the experience was very high, and to be honest, Dani’s restaurants are way better in Spain. Shoutout to the personnel who were very aware of the situation and invited us to all the wine.

Take my husband to dinner at this place and I have some things to say.
The food is not completely bad, but if it's a Spanish restaurant, I would expect an excellent paella. Instead, I received something more like a risotto. The ribs had an excess of sauce and were completely dry.
They need a sommelier or someone with experience in wines because that man doesn't say a word.
The service was very good, the waitress and the other staff were great, and the ambiance was interesting. But if you're looking for good food, this is not the place.

It was the third time I went to Casa Dani. And I invited my friend to come with me this time since he had never tried before.
There was a very big party there in the restaurant. So the waitresses seem to only serve that large party. We were there 7pm, and the server didn’t come to take our order till 7:30. We ordered around 8 dishes and was noticed that 3 of them has already sold out cuz of the big party. And that was only 7:30 at night. We need to pick replacement dishes.
During our dinner, the waitress only came to refill the water once. We need to ask them to refill every single time. And the food there was not as good as before for sure.
The most ridicules part was that we almost finished our meal except one Paella called Squid Ink before 8:30. The whole table was empty with only the water cups. And no one felt strange to check if there were something not being served. Till 8:50, the Paella was still not served on the table. We asked the server and the manger came to say it would be ready in other 15 mins while one and half hour had already passed from when we placed our order. The manager stated that It was because that the big party has ordered the Paella and fulfilled all the cooking range which I don’t think it was the case. However, we still gave them the time to finish the dish. After 15 mins, it comes. BUT, the rice is NOT FULLY COOKED AT ALL!! And we told the manger such situation and he said he would check with the chef. And guess what did he said when he’s back. He said they would continue cook it for 3 more mins. THEY JUST ADMITTED!!! We felt really disappointed and cancel the dish.
It was a so TERRIBLE experience I’ve ever had in Casa Dani which I used to love this restaurant so much.

I cannot speak highly enough about this restaurant. From the moment I opened the door to the moment I left, the staff was phenomenal. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and worked hard to make my experience better.

The bartender was extremely helpful with drink recommendations and then crafted the cocktails quickly, but with care. Both drinks I tried (Un Invierno Sin Ti and El Madrid) were fantastic.

The menu had many fantastic options and we loved almost everything we ordered including the chicken paella (great to share for the table), both the pulpo con papa alina and calamar frtio options, caesar salad, and the tuna (cannot remember which one). The only thing that wasn't great the whole fish, not bad by any stretch, just not as amazing as everything else.

Overall, can't wait to go back here and highly recommend to anyone in the neighborhood looking for a great meal!

Review №92

Food overall is pretty good! I love the oxtail brioche and croquetas. The oxtail is super tender and everything goes really well together. When you take a bite of the croqueta, it explodes in your mouth and all the flavors come together nicely. The pan con tomate is a little too sour for me. Paella is good, but a little too salty; the chicken is really moist tho. The calamari is okay -- I didn't really like the batter and the squid ink alioli doesn't really have any taste. Fries and caesar salad (not pictured) are quite lame. The jiggling Spanish flan is super delicious! Service isn't that great. There is a minimum for private event and we didn't hit it, but they didn't tell us at all and just gave us a bill and we didn't know until someone did the math.. almost like they were trying to trick us. And we asked for all leftovers to be packed but they didn't pack everything. Also, if you eat the flan at the restaurant, they have the flan and whipped cream, but to go was just the flan; I also don't understand why they put it in a paper-based container instead of plastic container (which they used to pack our food) because all the caramel was then absorbed into the container.
______
Came back the second time to try more food. I reordered croquetas and pulpo and they were still on point. The 2 paellas were pretty good, less salty than last time. The rice is the pork one is a little harder than the pulpo. The server showed us the pulpo paella, then took it away without saying anything, which would be fine if they were going to put on a plate to serve us immediately. But they were waiting for the pork paella to be done to serve both together, so we waited a good 20-30m to get the pulpo after they showed us. In that case, would have preferred them to ask if we want the pulpo out first or let us know what they were gonna do. The branzino baked in black salt was quite normal, not worth the price imo. The tuna dishes are okay.

The quality of the food significantly exceeded our expectations and we cannot wait to go back.

Good: The food is great. Modern inventive takes on Spanish classics. Don't expect your typical pan con tomate, this one is steeped with tuna it's a really tasty alternative.

Bad: the place was maybe 2/3 full when we went for dinner and it was very very noisy. The service was poor. Slow to attend the table and didn't let us know the kitchen closed at 10pm so we left hungry. They comped us dessert as a result, which is nice, but the service just wasn't great throughout. For the standard of food, it's a bit of a let down.

When you first walk in you’re greeted by a very cozy and approachable environment. In addition to the super nice staff, the choice of decor, furniture, and art work contribute to this feeling of coziness and approachability.

The attentiveness of the staff is ok. As someone who doesn’t really enjoy being asked every 5 minutes how everything is going, I thought the staff could be slightly more attentive; however they’re very friendly when you do get approached.

We ordered the tuna porterhouse, Tomate nitro, patatas bravas, oxtail brioche sliders, and the seafood paella.
The tuna porterhouse is super simple, just high quality tuna, with salt and super flavorful olive oil. This one was probably one of my favorites. This dish really highlighted the quality of ingredients at this restaurant.

The Tomate nitro was a simultaneous combo of refreshing and richness. The sauce used is tart and bright. The shrimpies added a ton of umami and richness which rounded out the dish. The tomato in the center was a nice surprise.

The patatas bravas was purely decadent. The potato essence was strong with every bite you took. I wish the potatos were slightly crispier.

The oxtail brioche sliders were a solid. I thought the pocket of aioli on top was really good.

The seafood paella was super tasty and filled with so much umami. They bring it to you table side but then portion it elsewhere so remember to take that pic before they run away! The rice is cooked to al dente and has a lot of good seafood, rich flavoring. The shrimp was peeled but not deveined which I thought was intentional? The dish also came with the shrimp heads which had a ton of head butter.

We wrapped up the meal with the baked cheesecake and I have to say it’s one of the fluffiest cheesecakes I’ve ever had. It was super rich but not dense at all. We went with the sheep cheese shavings which added a nice saltiness to the dish, nearly making it a dessert into a savory dish.

I also want to add the cocktails and mock tails were probably one of my favorite aspects of this restaurant. I highly recommend the Nuevo Mundo.

Food, hands down, made to perfection. Had the hanger steak and tuna belly. Atmosphere is top notch, clean and vibrant colors. Service, always has room for improvements, we were seated right next to their some kind of prep station, they bring food there straight from the kitchen to that area, every time they open and close the drawer it shakes my seat, done repeatedly, it feels like a kid kicking the back of your seat in an airplane. After that we had a paella, big portion and we couldn’t finished it so we asked if we have it to go but only my spouse plate got taken care of and not mine.

Very pretty, expansive space, with good looking food. Not the best value for money in my option - the octopus paella only had four tentacles of octopus on a vast bed of rice for example. Still, I would come back due to the ambience and the variety in the menu.

A beautiful restaurant! The decor was tasteful, the seating comfortable and the acoustics were just right. Our waiter was attentive, and knowledgeable. The Sangria was probably the best anyone at our table ever had and we have definitely sipped a few along the way. We started out with tapas, artichokes with a shaving of Iberico ham in a stellar sauce of olive oil, chicken broth, lemon and cream. The portion was tiny and the ham was a dusting unfortunately but we sopped up the sauce which was plentiful. Then we had the fluke crudo which was wonderful. The portion was adequate and the flavor was delicate and bright. Definitely a winner. The octopus tapas was a portion you needed a magnifying glass and the price was ridiculous. This was kind of insulting quite frankly. It also didn’t shine with flavor and could have been cook more tenderly. The potatoes were crispy and tasty but nothing’s exceptional. We ordered the seafood paella to share as our main course which was beautifully presented to us before they took it away and divided it. The expression “Where’s The Beef” comes to mind looking for the mussels and the body of the shrimp. The shrimp heads stood out and were good if one likes crunch, and eyes, etc.. the flavor was rich and served with aioli which I love.
But at $72, maybe just maybe fill it with seafood. I am not sure I would return. Honestly they should get their act together and give more in each dish to make one feel like they are not getting ripped off. The funny thing is when the check came it was $598. I almost had a coronary until I realized the server brought us someone’ else’s check. Thank goodness I looked, the correct bill was half that and relieved to pay the correct amount.

Chef Dani Garcia is no stranger to the culinary world - he boasts 3 Michelin stars and the Bib Gourmand 2015 under his belt. And he is taking New York City by the storm at Casa Dani, highlighting cuisine inspired by Spain's Mediterranean south. Come explore Chef Garcia's culinary style that mixes surprising flavors and textures without losing sight of his culinary roots.

Tuna Belly and Avocado

Served on a bed of ice in an adorable fish-shaped plate, the minced fresh tuna belly absolutely melts in your mouth. It is paired perfectly with ripe and seasoned avocado.

Fluke with Pimiento Amarillo Cítrico

Fresh fluke is tossed in creamy aioli with corn, jalapeno, and other garnishment. Don't be shy about licking the plate to get all the sauce - this divine dish is a must order.

Tomate Tartare

Don't mistake this unique dish as steak tartare. This vegetarian dish is made with sun-dried tomato with a slight kick of spiciness and drizzled with olive oil. It is paired with grilled sour dough.

Oxtail Brioche

Moving on to the land, the Oxtail Brioche is a unique twist on a slider. Made with tender pulled oxtail, arugula, and creamy sauce on a buttery brioche, this tapas is an explosion of fireworks in your mouth.

Croquetas de Atun

Crispy croquettes filled with cheesy goodness is topped with melt-in-your-mouth slice of tuna sashimi. This is an unforgettable bite.

Patatas Bravas and Crispy Broccolini

You can not go to a Spanish tapas restaurant without ordering Patatas Bravas. The crispy cubes of potatoes smothered in tomato and white creamy sauce. Another highlight is the Crispy Broccolini paired with romesco sauce, hazelnut, and lime.

Marisco Paella

And drum roll please for the highlight of the dining journey...Marisco Paella! Casa Dani serves thin paellas to allow the rice to breathe. The paella is topped with generous amount of seafood like shrimp, razor clams, mussels, and monkfish. The rice seemed slightly undercooked, but each bite reminded me of a delicious swim in the ocean.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Casa Dani for dinner. The food was incredible, especially the fluke crudo - it was absolutely delicious, crunchy, creamy and cooked to perfection. The oxtail brioche was also a must order, very different from what you’ll find elsewhere.

The interior design is on point, it felt like we traveled somewhere unique and sets the tone for an amazing experience. Olive trees and terracotta tiles create the impression of dining al fresco!!

The only dish that fell short was the ensaladilla de cangrejo - the flavor was bland, and couldn’t taste the crab; only potato and mayonnaise. You can skip.

All in all, Casa Dani was a great experience. The food was outstanding and the atmosphere was unparalleled. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and special evening.

Famous Spanish restaurant in New York City that really didn’t impress me .
The ambiance was standard .
The food wasn’t tasty and had little to do with Spanish food ( I am Portuguese, so I go often to Spain and I know what I am saying ) . It doesn’t matter if the Chef is famous,I won’t go back . Specially avoid the Paella ( I really don’t see any similarity with the real Spanish paella ) .
Service is just ok .
Prices high for that kind of food .

Not sure why they dare to charge us for 20% tips. My friend had a birthday reservation and they did not say HBD to her and no little birthday cake. We have 6 people and they cut the cake to 8 pcs??? If u don’t know how to cut the cut evenly, u can go back to elementary school to learn how to do it.
After giving us 6 pcs, the rest 2 pcs cake did not come. We asked the waiter for the left, he said he did not know. In the end, he brought the left pcs to us.
We also ordered a fish. The guy cut the fish badly….. hope he can learn how to cut fish seriously!! Never come back to this horrible place again!

I went there just to try their "famous cheese tart" while sitting at the bar. It is available every day they are open for dinner. I had dinner there weeks earlier, but did not have room for dessert. They sprinkle cheese over it in front of you. You have a choice of one of three cheeses, goat; sheep; or cow cheese. It was very good and very different.

I felt like I walked into Spain. The decor, the atmosphere, the smells. It was amazing. We passed by earlier in the day and met two of the men involved heavily in the restaurant, owners it seemed, anyway, they treated us like family, gave us their card and said to text them anytime to get a reservation. While at the restaurant, we were treated like royalty, someone was on our drinks at all never it never dipped below 1/4 glass and I was refilled. Okay, the food. Wow. As soon as I placed it in my mouth I was in heaven. Fresh, light, delicious food. Order anything and you will not be upset. But don't miss the Tuna Belly. 5 out of 5 star restaurant!

We celebrated New Year's Eve dinner in Casa Dani.

We enjoy the food, but as Spanish I would say that it is far in quality from his restaurants in Spain.

Most of the tapas were nice (anchovi, tortilla, oxtail brioche, croquetas and acelgas), maybe the tortilla or croquetas being the best of them.

For entree, we pick the pluma ibérica that was a bit dry.

For me, the best and most similar to a Spanish dish was the arroz con leche. That was awesome.

At the end, a very overrated and expensive place.
