Shandy's

I placed a delivery order with Shandy’s via UberEats on 12/11/24 for a burger and side salad. I received an entirely different and cheaper order (no entree). I called the restaurant to inquire about my order and I was treated so incredibly rude. First a man answered the phone. He was polite and explained that the driver picked up the wrong order. I asked if I can come pick up the correct order. He asked me to wait on hold and after a brief pause someone else answers the phone, a woman this time saying, “Hello” and nothing else. I asked who I was speaking to and she replied, “This is Shandy’s” no answer to my inquiry or further explanation as to why they gave my driver an incorrect order. I again asked if they were going to replace my order and this lady scolded me like it was my fault. She took no ownership on the part of the restaurant. She said that the drivers are supposed to just pick up the items and scan them themselves. She lamented it was not her fault and not her problem. I asked her what she’s was going do about the $30 I just spent on a burger and salad and she said to call uber and again reiterated that it’s not her problem and highlighted what a huge inconvenience this situation is for her? Not sure how this can be an inconvenience for you or the restaurant when you did ✨absolutely nothing✨ to help me out include treat me politely. I would think twice before ordering takeout from this restaurant. I included a picture of the food that did come. It doesn’t even look very appetizing - straight to the trash.

I had an incredible dining experience at this black-owned restaurant! From the moment I walked in, the ambiance was inviting and cozy. How are you going to give me food to go and it not be correct. Overpriced for the portion size, and the food is good but not great for that price. It is a nice quiet vibe to just have a lunch alone, or a date, but service is severely lacking which is the major drawback here, AND they charge a 20% gratuity on the check for thier not gratuitous service. I overall would give this place a 3.5 out of 10 everything considered.

I take my daughter here for little mommy & me dates & we love it so much. The food is always so fresh, tasty & doesn’t leave you feeling bloated or gross like so many places. It feels refreshing to have something so fresh & yummy. Plus they have kids menus & colors & so many places don’t anymore for some reason. The atmosphere is really nice as well.

I'm not sure why this place has so many good reviews. It was disappointing in so many ways. I've been to several restaurants around the Heights and in Houston and will definitely not be returning here.

Cons:
- overpriced - The portions are small given the cost. I got a small burger which came with only a few fries. The quality of food wasnt great either. It definitely wasn't worth what we paid for it. We should have just gone to Local Foods.
- Food was not good. - The chicken soup looked like watered down canned chicken noodle soup....It tasted like it too. The sandwiches and burgers consisted of just meat, bread, and cheese...definitely something you could make at home-and probably better. I was surprised that there's no lettuce or tomatoes on the burger unless you request it. When the lettuce arrived, it was soggy and looked old. The pasta my friend ordered was dry and barely had any pasta sauce. It was bland too.No one enjoyed their food and they seemed to be skimping out on the portion size and quality of food.
- Lack of customer service. The waitress didn't look like she wanted to be there and wasn't very friendly. No one greeted us at the door. We weren't confused about whether we should seat ourselves or be seated. It was also hard to get our waitress's attention when we needed something. She was often in the back area.
- Needs more variety. It was difficult to choose what to order unless you wanted a sandwich, burger, or salad. Food descriptions weren't appetizing either. Menu needs work.
- Food took a while to come out.
- Restaurant was mostly empty during lunch hour. That should have been a red flag.
- No coffee selection.
- Parking was somewhat limited since it's the Heights and on 19th street.
- Mediocre ambiance- has potential but lacks character and a vibe.

Shandy’s is a charming and easily accessible restaurant in the Heights. On a recommendation from my dental hygienist, I tried the Garlic Brown Sugar pork chops with Dijon mashed potatoes and a house salad—everything was excellent. Mrs. Shandy herself provided great service. Highly recommend!

Congratulations on grand opening! Great food and atmosphere, staff are super friendly and attentive. Menu prices are a lil bit on the high(er) side, but food is very tasty. Looking forward to trying more food items here.

We decided to try a new place and based on reviews this was it. Shandy's exceeded our expectations. Service was prompt and friendly. Our food was delicious (we all tried sandwiches). The atmosphere was classy enough we wondered about how they'd really feel about kids. Well, they obviously enjoy family customers cause they have a solid kids menu and provided coloring supplies. We'll definitely be back.

Simple but surprisingly tasty salad, decently peppered black bean soup and very low-sulfite red Italian red wine by the glass are on the menu.

Take-your-bottle-home wine option offered.

I like that the menu is a bit inventive and leans toward healthier options.

The waitress was arguing with the fact that she wasn’t respectful at all to us and had been rude the whole time i want to speak to a manager about how young people are age aren’t treated correctly at your establishment anyone in the younger looking age don’t go here you won’t be treated with respect just a upset waitress

She was only at our table when she needed to be charged for extra things that were never asked for us my friend about a sandwich but wasn’t asked which chips or fries she wanted and charged because she didn’t care to ask she choose to be nicer to regulars instead of being somewhat nice and getting a 20% tip i love tipping my service people but i didn’t not and will never leave a waitress who argues with the customer a tip and waited 40 minutes to get us our check

Bad customer service. Today was my first time and the last. The lady who serve us was very rude from the moment we got in. I ordered an ice tea for a refreshment (it's summer), and I was sharing it with my friend, but the same lady told us that we could not share it, or else she will charge twice. We paid and left the place with a really bad impression.

Went in to pick up my to-go order my girlfriend placed online. I walk in and I go to the counter, the only black lady behind the counter. I didn't catch her name. She sees me and just gives me the silent treatment. I had a drink with my order, so I see her go get the lemonade and brings it back and sets it next to the bag, keep in mind not one word has been said from either one of us. She pushes the drink next to the bad and towards me, she walks away and luckily the bag had a receipt taped on the bag with my girlfriends name on it. Bad day? Don't bring it to work hun, no one wants to be treated like that, especially on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. I won't be going back to that place and also, 0 Star on the Food.

Tried their signature turkey sandwich and my husband tried their chicken salad sandwich. Personally I felt the food didn’t have much flavor at all, not even in their chipotle mayo. I wouldn’t have been too upset if it weren’t for the fact that it was $40 for 2 sandwiches and 1 iced tea. The servers seemed more distracted caring for their kids and weren’t too enthusiastic with any of the tables or us.

Based off the reviews, I thought this place would be a win but my experience was not pleasant. The staff was friendly but they seemed to be distracted taking care of their kids or sitting down and socializing with other tables. What went wrong is the wait time and the quality of the food. I don’t mind paying a pretty penny for food if the quality equals the price. We waited 45 minutes for a $45 ribeye that was rare when asked for mid rare. The veggies were bland and had no flavor. I also ordered a side of sweet potato fries that took around 40 minutes to bring out and it was cold. There were 2 tables sat after us that received their food and they were done eating while we still were waiting. At this point we were on our way to a concert and just couldn’t wait any longer to ask them to correct the order. We left not finishing the food and was given a bill for $110. This was for 2 drinks, an appetizer, and the entree, with an $8 side of cold sweet potato fries. My gut was telling me to just cancel the order and leave but I tried to stay positive. Me and my friend left disappointed. We could have went to a Brazilian steakhouse for the price we paid and had a lot more quality food. We learned our lesson and won’t be back.

Friendly and welcoming staff and consistently good food. This is one of those places that manages to do everything well. The prices are very reasonable and the quality of the food is always on point. Later hours during the week make it a convenient and satisfying stop.

My 2 teens ate with their team without us last weekend and we just received the credit card bill and the story from them and their teammates. My teen ordered a bleu cheese burger not know what it was. She added avocado and bacon not knowing the base burger was not what she started with. When it arrived, she said she did not understand her order and the waitress said they would replace. All teammates agreed that waitress said replace without new order. Teen even asked to have them remove the cheese and keep avocado and bacon. We were charged for both burgers and both additions of avocado and bacon. The waitress clearly took advantage of the teen. Tip was added on by restaurant. Bill for 2 teen burgers no appetizers was $66.

Spotlessly clean, welcomed upon entry. And then the hard part. Everything on the menu looked so good. We were in the mood for burgers and they were fabulous. Not fancy, nor so thick you can’t eat them. Perfect ratio of bun, meat and condiments. And so flavorful and juicy. When you come home from a long overseas trip and you are craving the perfect American burger, get one here!

"I recently ordered takeout from this place and unfortunately, I encountered some rudeness. I had ordered a simple soup combo and when I arrived, the place seemed quite empty. The only downside was that they forgot to include utensils, so I had to wait a bit before I could enjoy my meal. However, aside from that minor inconvenience, the food itself was actually quite decent. That's all I can say about my experience."

Came here for a burger at 830 Thursday night and even though there were 2 tables in there I was told the kitchen was closed even though they don't close until 10. I won't be trying this place again. They need to go ahead and close up shop when the staff is closing an hour and a half early. SMH, huge disappointment!

You can tell Chef cares about the food. Buffalo burger was moist and full of flavor. Fries were crisp and fluffy in the middle. The brown sugar glazed pork chops and Dijon potatoes were on point. Definitely adding this place to our rotation.

I have been coming here since their grand opening and the food, atmosphere and customer service were great, until Wednesday night.

I was there with a date and the owner/waitress came with our ticket. She took my date’s card to pay for the meal.

He checked his account and told me that she charged him two different charges $51 and $118, at the same time.

When she can back with the receipts, he tried to tell her AND show her that he was charged for our meal and someone’s meal. She never stopped to look at his charges, she just immediately blamed the bank for a $118 charge. I then advised her to listen and look instead of jumping on the defense and showed her that SHE made the error.

She then realized that she had the credit card of the other table, but swiped my date’s card for both tables. Instead of sincerely apologizing for her error and humbling herself, she shrugged her shoulders and said “well, it was an accident.” At that point, I told her to go fix it and void the transaction.

She came back to the table with a receipt showing that she voided the transaction and continued to shrug her shoulders and state “it was an accident” and still no apology or remorse.

Be that as it may, she was flirting with the men at the table of the bill my date paid along with ours. She wasn’t paying attention to what she was doing and paid two tables to the wrong card. She had NO humility and NO remorse about what she had done and now, not only has she lost me as a customer, but she has lost my following as customers.

A sincere apology and changed actions go along way. Humble yourself.

Fantastic restaurant in the Heights. Black woman owned. My friend had the Buffalo burger, which he loved, but I say try the Baked Chicken with steamed broccoli and couscous. Everything was perfect. The owner was so sweet, and you could tell it was a family affair. You love to see it. BTW, the couscous was the best I've ever had, and I lived in the Middle East for 10 years.

First time dining at Shandy's and it did not disappoint! I had the south burger it was very original for the other burgers I've had. Unique blend of Jamaican spices, well seasoned cooked to perfection. Looking at the other items of the menu, looking forward to coming back trying the Jerk Chicken. Support Local! Keep the Heights for Houstonians!

Shandy's is a favorite of mine. We first discovered it in the Memorial location and now it's even closer in the Heights. The absolute best thing on the menu is her Roast Chicken. Juicy, flavorful, and spiced to perfection. I always forget to take pictures because I eat it so fast.

She insisted I try out the cheesecake and I can say she was right, so delicious! I also got the red velvet cake because it was calling my name and so lovely as well.

She also has great wine selections and a full bar. I went at an off hour during the rain so there were plenty of seats. We had her chicken veggie soup as well as the spicy black bean soup and they were both wonderful for a rainy day.

She said they will be taking part in Boos & Brews in the Heights as well as an Alzheimer's event in November and Lights In The Heights. I love seeing a local business take part in community activities.

We had a great dinner here . The food was really good and tasty. I had a buffalo burger, my mum had a tuna salad sandwich. We both opted to switch out the fries for sweet potato fries, and were very happy with the flavor and nice crispy outside. My sister has eaten here in the past, and she highly recommends their Spinach Artichoke Turkey Burger. Very decent beer list. Tasty desserts, too. We had a peanut-butter cookie and an Outrageous Brownie. The brownie was especially nice, and would be perfect in their Brownie à la Mode.
Our server was friendly, fast, and attentive (but not too attentive, if you know what I mean). The place was comfy and clean. There's a reasonable amount of street parking. We'll be going back.

The food was ok. I wasn't prepared for the Nigerian flavoring. There were jalapeños (maybe) in the chicken salad sandwich and the tea was maybe a Black Current flavor? My friend's lunch was not impressive either. The server was abrupt, not rude just a little surly. Not my cup of tea but others might like it.

I went a month ago and ordered the beef. First time there. The nice waitress came back and said the beef price was wrong. From 20 something to 40+ something. I got it anyway, it was great. I return a month later and order beef. A different waitress returns after I place my order and says the same thing. This time I chose to order something different. Food is really good , I just wish they would update their pricing to the correct amount.

We come to Shandy's every time we come to the Heights. Everything we've tried has always been yummy. My all-time favorite is their chopped grilled chicken salad. Super flavorful!!

Don’t go here. They lie about their prices then fleece you after the meal. Feels like a third world country. Total scam. This is not a $40 steak (of course the menu said $24).

Waitress was great. Food was mediocre. They LIE about their prices. The menu has one price, then when the bill comes the items are 67% more expensive. This is misrepresentation and I will be reporting to the better business bureau and the AG’s office.

Shandy's by far has the best selection, vibe, and overall value for quality food in this area of town. My wife and I visit often and are always very happy with our visit. Try the Pesto pasta, the salmon, Club sandwich, Burger, Sweet potato fries, drinks, and even the Weekend Brunch Mexican style eggs. Love this place; you will love the staff, service, and food!

This was my 1st time going to this restaurant. My daughter treated me there for Mother's day. 1st of all, the atmosphere was so comfortable and welcoming. The waitstaff was so sweet and friendly.
The food was DELICIOUS! Not sure of what style food that it was but I loved it all. Everything looked so good I didn't know where to start! Ended up having the pork chops, mashed potatoes, and greenbeans.
Now I must say they don't hold back the liquor on their drinks! They're delicious as well and most definitely puts you in the place you need to be!I 😉😉
Overall it was a very good 1st time dining experience and I'll definitely be visiting again!

Some menu items are not offered and highly requested apparently. Like the Jerk Chicken. I was excited to eat here but the price is paying for that 19th street rent I guess. My friend noticed the bun quality was store bought for his burger. Still the four starts because our waiter was super nice and efficient. The pasta I had was delicious.

Nice atmosphere and very good service. We ordered guacamole 4/5 and chips 5/5 (might be best tortilla chips ever), club sandwich 4.5/5 (liked no middle bread slice, ham and cheese sandwich 4/5, southwest burger 4/5. I just ate here again. This time I got the roasted chicken 5/5 with blistered green beans 5/5. The chicken is moist and well spiced.

I just happened upon this place while antique shopping, and it was such a delightful surprise. The food is delicious (including their scrumptious fries) and the staff is very friendly, though they sometimes forget to stop by.

Shandy’s is a solid lunch spot featuring fresh-and-healthy Mediterranean-fusion cuisine. I tried the seared salmon with couscous entree and for $22, and I'd give the dish (4/5) for flavor and (4.5/5) for value. The cut of salmon was very generous and the sides were tasty, especially given how healthy they were. I would certainly return to Shandy’s and recommend it as a strong contender at its price point.

My boyfriend and I came in on a Monday evening for a early valentines dinner and was immediately greeted and welcomed. The level of customer service service exceeded our expectations and hope. From the very beginning we were treated with such kindness and both of those who served us were attentive throughout the duration of our visit. The spinach dip with tortilla chips was our appetizer and that was delicious and had wonderful flavor! ( I would love to see that made into a soup as well!) I ordered the roasted chicken and it was absolutely incredible. Tender, juicy, seasoned, delicious chicken, the best I have ever had. The meat literally fell off the bone, which is what our waitress told us and was very pleased with how that proved to be true when we received it. The mashed potatoes and green beans were prepared to perfection. My boyfriend got the pork chops and he agreed that they were the best he’s tried. For dessert we ordered this warm red velvet cake drizzled with chocolate and cheesecake icing. It melted in our mouth and was again, one of the best we have had. The quality of the food, service, and cleanliness of this restaurant was top notch. I will definitely be recommending this place to others and we will DEFINITELY be returning. It was one of the most satisfying dining experiences.

Absolutely LOVED this place. The ribeye, cooked medium rare, was delicious. Even better than the nicest Houston steakhouses. They have some affordable wines by the bottle, which is appreciated.

The service was phenomenal. I enjoyed meeting the owner, Shandy, and her niece. Look forward to many future visits!

Really great for a late night bite and the service was incredible, both the waiter and bartender. Loved the bloody Mary and the blue cheese bacon burger was excellent. The area can get busy but well worth trying.

Went with my kid and the food was awful and the staff weren’t helpful with recommendations. Never going again.

3. If you don’t like something expect to pay for it.

I had the Hummus and it was watery and bland as you can get. Buying from the grocery store is way better. I did not even touch much after a few bites and asked if they can remove it from the check and was told no because no one ever complains about it? If you need $11 rather than keeping customers happy then alright Shandys its time to focus on other priorities at that point… I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich with a very interesting twist. No buffalo sauce… my girlfriend ordered a burger and it came out nice but very basic. All in all I enjoyed my time at the restaurant very clean but I came to eat not be fascinated by ambiance and the food was not good. I look forward to a response.
Also UPDATE YOUR MENU why even show me an item that I want that isnt on the menu anymore?

I ordered thru uber eats. I was surprised when i got the order. All are ok, until i saw the sweet potato. It is just like half of the plastic box for a price of $6.90. 😮

Heights best kept secret! Customer service here is great as was the food. I tried the chicken salad sandwich with baked potato soup. Delicious and very fresh. Mimosas were also good! 1st time here but won’t be the last.

My cheeseburger was delicious. Meat very flavorful as well as the bun and condiments. I really enjoyed the tea too, possibly mango flavored. The place was festive with Christmas decorations. The servers were friendly and attentive

Got take out (Chicken Penne Pasta) from Shandy's and it was one of the most flavorful dishes I've ever gotten. The pasta was cooked perfectly, chicken was juicy and seasoned perfectly, and the pasta sauce and pesto were made to perfection! Very friendly environment and excellent customer service! Don't do yourself a disservice by not coming here! Go try Shandy's!!!

A girlfriend and I go to a massage place in the same block on Sunday mornings and we asked the owner of the place where should we eat and she recommended this place. We went and OMG, the food was EXCELLENT! Also the service was impeccable and the atmosphere clean, modern and the clientele it attracts is pleasant. I am going to take my mother there one day and we will DEFINITELY be back. It is hard to see though. I've walked past this place hundreds of times and never saw it and I also have gone in the store hundreds of times it is attached to and I NEVER EVA saw it. Also, the font on the sign isn't legible so you HAVE to know that it's there to find it. Again, A PLUS food and service. Deon was our host and I have never had service like him.

Great roast chicken dish. The juice they give with the chicken is excellent and really liked the sides of mashed potatoes and spinach. We also liked their potato soup and sandwiches.

They were playing fun music on the speakers when we ate. Really enjoyed our first time here.

This place is amazing! The vibe is so nice. The staff is friendly. There's also a guy in there that looks almost like Justin Timberlake and he will bust a move for you! The owner Shandy is SUPER inviting and pleasant. She came over to talk to us and made recommendations about the roasted chicken (that we'll try next time). The pesto pasta with chicken added is amazingly Dee-licious. I'm from Nola so I love to eat good food. I'd say go to Shandy's you won't be sorry!!!

What a change from Shandy’s location on Memorial that is much loved. Love this bright open space. Shandy has done a beautiful job creating a nice environment in which to dine and drink (thanks to the full bar w/plenty of seating). My friend and I had lunch. She had a delicious salad and I had the soup, sandwich, salad combo. I had the chicken vegetable soup, to which I had to add a lot of pepper and salt for the flavor I was hoping for. Unfortunately the chicken in the soup was tough and stringy. I had been hoping for actual chunks for both white and dark meat rather than shredded/pulled chicken. The chicken salad sandwich (half) was flavorful and the salad was fresh. Definitely want to go again and try other items on the diverse menu. Wishing Shandy much success with the new location!

The food was excellent, our server, Mathilde, was fabulous, and I loved the atmosphere. I had the turkey burger, my aunt had the tuna on ciabatta, and the fries are not just a plate filler - they're verrry good!
